Comments Thread For: Jhonny Gonzalez-Clive Atwell in Play For March 29th

According to promoter Osvaldo Küchle, WBC featherweight champion Jhonny Gonzalez is likely going to defend his title on March 29th at Zocalo in Mexico City, against number #11 ranked Clive Atwell (12-0-1, 7KOs) of Guyana. Gonzalez wants to stay active until Abner Mares is ready to face him in a rematch. Gonzalez was going to face Mares on February 14th in Los Angeles, but Mares withdrew with a rib injury. Atwell, 25-years-old, has never fought outside of Guyana or against an opponent near the level of Gonzalez.

Never heard of this Clive guy 'till I read this article. However, I won't be surprised if he pulls off the upset.

People talk about russell jr fighting nobodies and tomatoe cans, but russell would have been a far bigger fight the this, way bigger and johnny would have got more money also,i like johnny but i cant help but think hes ducking russell jr now...too much speed and to much skill for johnny to handle....russell wants a belt, and was willing to fight the champ ponce didnt offer nothing not even a mandatory,so people who aregonna say russell ducked ponce, doesnt understand wut a fighter turns profesional to do and thats WIN A WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP!! # johnnyduckingrusselljr

So what did TBA have to offer instead of Ponce again? He wants a big break, but takes the same, if not lower, level of fights until he's given a world title shot?

It's funny that Loma's debut opponent was better than Gary's entire resume.
Guess He prefers fighting TBA on unteleivised portions of a card

Everyone praises Rigo because he not only defeated the best fighter in the division and the #3 ranked pound for pound fighter in Nonito Donaire but gave him a complete boxing lesson. Other than the knock down in the 10th (I believe) I had it a shut out. That's why Rigo gets all his praise In just 13 pro fights.

If GR JR wanted to be taken seriously, probably should've fought PDL instead of fighting TBA instead
