Im not expert on cuba, but some of these posts are the ******est things i have ever read..

Here is my open-minded, non-biased opinion on the matter

1. Revolution was probably good when it happened,

2. Castro ruined things by becoming a dictator and not putting in a democracy for the new government,,, It would be like if george washington won the revolt. war and then then was president for life, and then his brother after him etc.
Nobody with any common sense, knows that a dictatorship is horrible

3. The USA embargo on Cuba was fine for the first few years, Stuff like that happens all the time in world politics, but to have it last over 50 years is insane,,,, the USA should have eased restrictions a long time ago, its insane to have it still in affect, and only hurts the poor of cuba, it does nothing to hurt Castro and company,, they still living large

4. If Cuba was so good with Castro, then why the hell do people risk lives in shark infested waters to get to america,,, That has to be the most telling factor of how awful life in Cuba is... USA isnt perfect by any means but you dont see americans risking their lives to flee america

5. To the idiot that says Cuba is a good place to live, Communism provides 3 meals a day, and people can purse whatever they want in live,,, That is just not true,,, if true how come their professional athletes arent allowed to go to other countries as a professional, like dominican republic guys going to pro baseball in the states,,,

6. Communism is horrible,,, The guys in charge will have all the benefits and there is no middle class, and only rich leaders, and poor public,,,, no matter where it is,,,,
free markets and democracy are the best tools for a society,, Yes they arent perfect and the USA has been basically overthrown by corporations, but not because of capitalism and democracy, it is because politicians and business leaders have sold out the middle class by shipping jobs to under-developed countries for low slave wages which ultimately will ruin USA, and will pretty much turn the whole world into the Rich leaders, and everyone else, with no chance to rise or drop from different classes

7. Pre-revolution Cuba was like Vegas,,, alot of crooks, alot of poor people, alot of money flowing around, economic hotbed, but post revolution its just poor people with no economic growth and everything controlled by the state

He was Cuba's homicidal pimp, and the whole country was his whore to exploit as he saw fit. That's why Castro was seen as such a hero then. Fulgencio Batista was such a pr*ck that he killed anywhere from 20 to 50 thousand Cubans (not to mention how many he tortured) to keep power, just another strong arm dictator puppet, but he was the kind the US liked the type that would do what they wanted so they didn't give 2 ****s about the Cuban people, a policy which prevails today.

Close enough good assessment, but a lot of people under estimate just how much of a ******* pig Batista was. He was Cuba's homicidal pimp, and the whole country was his whore to exploit as he saw fit. That's why Castro was seen as such a hero then. Fulgencio Batista was such a pr*ck that he killed anywhere from 20 to 50 thousand Cubans (not to mention how many he tortured) to keep power, just another strong arm dictator puppet, but he was the kind the US liked the type that would do what they wanted so they didn't give 2 ****s about the Cuban people, a policy which prevails today.

Im not trying to defend bautista in any way,,,, Castro and Che were legit when it happened,, i have no qualms with people revolting, the thing is that they turned into dictators instead of bringing democracy,,, Castro could have been like cuba's version of george washington, but instead he is just a dictator...

Good post. I've said much of this myself. I have no problem with people expressing their views, but none of those that have supported communism have actually lived in a communist society, much less Cuba.

Yeah, Batista was an animal. That's partly why Castro was able to rally enough support for a revolution. It didn't take long for people to realize that Castro was more of the same. But since Castro was smart enough to implement some positive change, many people came to see him as the lesser evil. I understand that viewpoint. What I don't understand is how people can actually support him to this day.
