On a related note I think most people don't realise just how brutal the sport it as the glitz and glamour of HBO/Showtime doesn't allow one to see it. Seeing a war in the gym is much different from on tv. More respect for fighters is all i'm saying
I hate the phrase "boxers risk their lives for our entertainment!"

These are human beings man, get real.
You people for the most part who are in the 'entertain me, I paid my money', are sooooo out of touch with the dangers in boxing.
Barry Sanders twists an ankle and sits out the game and his team loses. Michael Jordan jams two fingers and sits out the rest of the game and his team loses. Alex Rodriguez has an ailment and sits out the game and his team loses. Should these athletes risk losing the rest of their careers by continuing on competing with these injuries just because the fans paid their money and want to be entertained? Hell no!!
Where is all the *****ing and moaning from the fans? Hell, none of these examples had anybody near the possibility of death or dementia and everybody is fine with it. Yet a fighter gets disconnected from his senses by a viscious shot and is counted out on his knees and he's committed some kind of crime in your eyes.
First remember that these fighters, while they agreed to fight, are human beings. Your star athletes in other sports sit out for weeks with minor injuries.
'But I'z paid my money, fight to the death if you have to.'
I can't think of one sport that would be worth dying for just so that the pea brained public won't have ****ty things to say. It's not your night so let it go, live to fight another day.
You people are fools............ Rockin'

what pisses me off is how firemen are viewed as heroes... i was watching a game show where a contestant came to the stage and said he was a fireman. the host told the audience to give him a round of appluase "peeleft:
as if hes some sort of hero? where i come from, firemen work 2-3 days a week and during their time at "work" they shop for groceries, cook, workout, and play cards at the firehouse. once in a blue they will get a call for a cat stuck in a tree or something ...im sick of that stereotype that they are heroes and deserve praise
boxers put their lives on the line way more and actually have to WORK

They do risk their lives beating the **** out of each other, and if we didn't find that entertaining nobody would pay them, and nobody would risk their lives for money or otherwise so ultimately the phrase is true although not as noble as they make it out to be it remains true. Besides not all pro boxers get paid millions of dollars, but they still get hit just as much.Comment

Your star boxers today fight twice in 365 days. Spare me the dramatics. They chose their line of work knowing all of the dangers involved. They can easily quit at any time they choose and get regular jobs like the rest of us. Btw, some of these "regular" jobs, are just as dangerous, if not more so due to having to do them 5 days a week. These are human beings man, get real.
