  • Comments Thread For: Bradley: I’d have gotten Pacquiao even with no extension

Tim Bradley has not only signed for a rematch with Manny Pacquiao, but he has also extended his contract with promoter Top Rank. Though these business deals came at the same time, Bradley says this wasn’t a case of Top Rank telling him that the Pacquiao fight wouldn’t happen unless he signed the contract extension.

“No, no, no, not at all. It was just part of the deal, it was part of the package deal,” Bradley told BoxingScene.com on Jan. 29. “They never said that the fight would never happen. It was just part of the package deal that they were offering me. And for some people that say, ‘Yeah, that’s like putting a gun to your head and saying if you don’t take this, you’re not going to get the fight,’ but honestly, I think I was the only option Manny Pacquiao had at the time. If that is the case,, why in the hell did you resign with an extension,,,

He just should have fought manny, not re-upped and became a free agent like cotto,, He could still do fights with Top rank, but he could also get the floyd fight or GBP fighters like broner, maidana, khan, thurman, ghost, etc

Tim doesn't need to do damage control. He made a decision that was best for him and his family. You said you weren't interested in a floyd fight. cool. But don't say you don't know what fights you'd get.

You'd get fights, you just wouldn't be the headliner or a side. Now at TR, other than Manny, Tim is the a side with Provod/alvarado/rios and a headliner so it's better for his personal profile.

Sugar Ali.... You don't know the business very well bro. Why would he not sign with Top Rank again when they are waiving a guranteed 6 million dollar fight and I'm sure a very lucrative signing bonus that he doesn't have to pay out on??? Trust me if he doesn't re- sign he's not getting those numbers and top rank plays some hard ball in negotiating terms. NEVER pass up that kind of money. SIGN and take the guranteed paper

Business decision would have been to take the fight, become a free agent, and let both sides start a bidding war.

But he could have gotten the 6 million manny payday regardless, unless im missing something,,, He would have gotten paid, and maybe still worked with TR or at least had the option to look at GBP

WHile I understand and agree with taking the money, Floyd had a small fanbase when he left TR and look what happened.

Perhaps GBP could help market him to a fanbase that would be moreaccepting of him. AFter all, as great as TR is at promoting, Bob himself admits he hasn't been adept at marketing to the african american fanbase.

Bradley read Boxing Scene, he read the comments of the FIX being in since he signed an extension and Pac didn't, dude is doing some damage control pre fight. Remember when Bradley came out and said there is no way Marquez is going to beat him by decision or something? lol Dude already knows he has this fight on lock.

He made sense though with the Floyd pac situation, he is at least going to be the top guy at Top Rank. He basically signed his soul to TR and HBO.

all of what ur saying and the guy u quoted is a big "IF", top rank is saying they guarantee bradley that he will make this amount. why risk it when u know for sure what u'll be getting if u stay with TR?
