  • Comments Thread For: Stiverne: I’m Getting Ready for a Different Chris Arreola

Nine months ago, Bermane Stiverne dropped Chris Arreola early and went on to beat him by unanimous decision. Now they are getting ready to face each other again, this time in a bout being contested for a vacant heavyweight world title.

Stiverne spoke with BoxingScene’s David Greisman and Kelsey McCarson of The Boxing Channel on Jan. 26 about the upcoming bout.

stiverne doesn't have to change anything. he boxed arreola's socks off. I still think the broken nose limited arreola's breathing so his attacks were not as relentless but it's chris who will have to avoid the big shot again. if chris charges in throwing like he usually does stiverne could counter him & the same result could happen. If arreola can get past stiverne he is the time of pressure boxer wlad doesn't like to fight. the problem is he has to get past stiverne first...

what's he expect to be different?
Arreola isn't gonna change his style, he is who he is
and he'll never be a guy who comes in the ring in tip top shape
when he's looked "good" he just hasn't looked as fat
Stiverne should train and fight just how he did the last time
it was enough to win then and should be now

You're horrible in terms of evaluating a boxer's place in history, but I'll give you that you can usually evaluate individual fights fairly well. I agree with this analysis, if Arreola can get past Stiverne, he's the only fighter who could pose a somewhat realistic chance of upsetting an aging Wlad. But its 50/50 whether he can get past Stiverne. The punch changed the dynamic of the fight, which Arreola had been winning to that point, with Arreola clearly unable to press the attack because of his breathing. But, what's to say he won't catch another tremendous punch like that while he's wading in next time, especially if Stiverne's arm wasn't 100% in the last fight.

Lots of excuses on both sides. Arreola was Bronerized last time they fought; all things
being equal the same thing will happen.

GTFO with "Arreola can upset Wlad"....upset his stomach maybe but that's it.

Bronerize?! Are you kidding me? He did get outboxed and fought right through a broken nose but in no way in hell did he get beat the fuc down embarrasingly like Broner. Wrong fight to set an example.

You've got to be kidding. Arreola is tailor made for Vlad! He loves the wade in types like Chris.
