  • Comments Thread For: Hearn Plans Last Ditch Effort To Finalize Froch-Groves II

CARL FROCH and George Groves will come face-to-face again this week after agreeing to a rematch. Four football venues – The Etihad Stadium, The Emirates Stadium, Old Trafford and The City Ground - as well as England Rugby HQ Twickenham are being considered to stage Froch-Groves II on May 31 after their first thrilling clash ended controversially.

Froch, 36, stopped Londoner Groves, 25, in the ninth round after being decked in the first – but the decision to halt the scrap has left fight fans calling for a rematch.

Purse bids it is then! I have a feeling that Froch will drag this out and end up vacating the belt.... something he said he would never do! Coming up with excuses such as... 'my dream was to fight in Vegas'..... 'Groves wanted too much money'.... 'I'm an international superstar, he doesnt deserve to share a ring with me again'.

I think Hearn is using the jr fight to get Groves to budge. Groves deserves a rematch in my opinion, and he deserves one without options. That being said, Hearn now has the bargaining power as Groves will either have to accept a lower cut of a huge fight or a bigger cut of a smaller fight.

I think they'll find a solution and have a big fight come May.

So now Groves is appealing the IBF decision?

While everything Froch has said suggests that he doesn't want the fight, if the IBF order an 85-15 split and Froch is the only one that accepts, then I can't see how people can defend Groves. Yes he deserves more than 15% of the purse but he is talking as if he is the only one who wants the fight and as if he would do anything to make it happen.

I've seen posts stating that Hearn is only willing to do the fight if Groves agrees to options on his future fights. I don't agree with that kind of thing, it's a typical Warren move and if true it's a shame to see Hearn resort to it now he's the UK's dominant promoter. I wouldn't blame Groves for turning down that kind of deal.

I think Groves has as much bargaining power here. If he doesn't accept Hearn's offer then it goes to purse bids. Hearn will do everything he can to avoid purse bids because every promoter around the globe will be bidding for this fight..... and we all know Hearn never wins purse bids. If Groves has to take 15% of a purse I'm sure he'll wait for another promoter to put a bigger purse on the table.

I may be wrong but I think if it goes to a purse bid the split is something like 75/25 for the champion, which if true means Groves stands to get a larger slice of a larger pie if it goes to a purse bid especially if the Promoter who won Klitschko/Povietkin(his name escapes me at the moment) bid wins it because he is likely to bid big.

If Groves had worked his way into a WBA mandatory position instead of the IBF I don't think we'd have seen the first fight.

I recall Froch saying that he wouldn't relinquish the IBF belt before the Groves fight because it was more prestigious than the WBA regular (and rightly so). I think it's quite likely that he will vacate, so we could be in a position where Froch holds the WBA plastic belt if he gets through Chaves, whilst Groves fights a no mark to pick up the IBF strap to set up a showdown later in the year.

Issue with that is Groves would demand 50/50, claim his belt is worth more than Froch's plastic title, and we go around and around in a circle of death.

Get the fight on now and pray for a clear cut winner.

If you told Groves the year is 2014, he would appeal it.
