He was probably trying to take Kovalev deep. Given the cuts and how hard Kovalev was breathing it wasn't a bad plan, or that poorly executed-- It's just that Kovalev is that strong.

Kov was pacing himself through the entire fight, and Agnew was steadily absorbing punishment. Letting a puncher land on you without consequence is not a good game-plan.

Agnew would look good against the Bellews and Cleverlys of the division.


The scary thing about Kovalevs power (besides the fact that its two handed) is that he doesn't even need to have his feet fully set and planted, he throws at various angles and sometimes looks to throw off balance.


But I love how Kovalev sets his punches up. That feint to the head wasn't the first time he's done that. He had a similar beautiful setup against Leonell Thompson, for example
