Why is it some fighters get hyped up on here before they do anything?

Mike Tyson had a ton of hype before doing anything.

Nothing wrong with hype. It's only bad when hype gets you free titles (Chavez Jr, Canelo for example ).

I stand by how I felt about Mathysse. GGG and Kovalev are growing on me, but I'm still not sold. I'm actually more sold on Kovalev than GGG if I "had" to make a choice.

But I stand by how I felt about Mathysse. But hey, "Low Blow" Danny did well that night

Kovalev has done next to nothing? LOL.

I always laugh at that. Kovalev should be the IBF and WBO champ, he knocked out Campillo who clearly got robbed against Tavoris Cloud. That's a big win. He then went to Nathan Cleverly's hometown, and took the belt from him. That was an even money fight by oddsmakers and Kovalev won every round of that fight. Then he comes back and just SHREDS Sillakh in a manner that one else has done to him.

If that's considered 'nothing' then we need to start addressing a number of fighters.

Kovalev is the real deal until he gets beaten.

Matthysse might have lost to Danny, who is no.1 in that weight class, but prior to that he knocked out Peterson who is the IBF champ and is a very good fighter.

GGG, I agree he hasn't faced the opponents that the above have faced and he needs to step it up soon. But he's undefeated, he's knocking everyone out in front of him, has an Olympic pedigree.

          Larryxxxx...stop drinkin pee.

So you hate fighters who KO their opponents but support fighters who can't KO same level opponents, who also get hype. This is like some neverending circle of hype/whiny complaining cos everyone doesn't love the same fighters you do.

I agree with this. They go nuts over the power puncher that gets consecutive KO's especially. Like out of control crazy hype. And I think it's that much worse if the fighter is foreign.

I don't know. I really don't know what it is, but the point he brings up seems valid. Danny Garcia packs a good punch, KO'd Amir Khan, and knocked down Judah, also knocked down Matthysee. And he doesn't get the same hype whatsoever. Before his last fight, he was getting crucified here literally.

The way Adrien Broner got crucified here after he lost, Garcia was getting almost the same treatment but WAY BEFORE he fought Matthysse. Immediately after the Peterson TKO they crucified Danny and it went nonstop til fight night.

Thurman is also another that's lightly talked about here.

Cleverly was an undefeated titleholder, who had never been down in a fight before.

The other two were ordinary contenders, but the way Kovalev took them out was impressive.

campillo was a solid win. cleverly was ****...........cleverly has barely beaten c rated fighters.

I think Kovalev is well deserved. Knocking out Campillo (who lets be honest with ourselves beat Cloud easily) who would have had the IBF had he been given the decision and knocking out Cleverly (who had actually beat Bellew are two big wins for him. He would have two titles if not for the judges in the Cloud fight.

Sillah is no pushover either, lot of people thought he was the truth until Grachev. Kovalev had a huge 2013, his main competition is Stevenson no? If you look at Stevensons 2013 he beat Dawson (came off a KO loss to Ward), Cloud (just lost to Hopkins) and Bellew.

IMO Kovalev had at least as good a year as Stevenson, not hype just an honest assessment. Stevenson cannot conceivably fight anyone other than Kovalev outside of MAYBE Pascal.

                    Garcia KO% - 59%
                    Matthysse KO% - 84%
                    Kovalev KO% - 87.6%

When the three you mentioned get into the ring, chances are their opponent is in for a painful night. They come forward, batter the opponent into submission and it's entertaining.

As for the divisions they're in, all three guys are top 5. Matthysse is in the process of bouncing back, GGG is staying busy and building his name, and Kovalev has been looking unstoppable recently against respectable opposition. They might not be "the" guy to beat in their respective divisions, but they're definitely in the discussion. If someone wants to build their name, these are three guys that should be fought. Garcia's 140lb reign was solidified only after fighting Matts. The situation is a bit more complicated with GGG and Kovalev though, as their potential opponents fight for another network.
