Gamboa was the last "special" fighter we've seen.

Gamboa was the last guy to get in the ring and have a special kind of talent. Ward is excellent, D. García excellent, Rigondeaux excellent, all in their own way, but Gamboa was the last guy that actually made me go "wow".....Mayweather and Pac were on top but it was clear that Gamboa would be a threat to both of them once he moves up. This guy was a casCash cow in the making...a spanish speaking fighter with Mayweather slickness, Pacquaio handspeed, and Margarito mix it up attitude. Now, the guy barely fights, and when he does, he doesnt look special at all. Wtf

All flash and little substance. A proven one trick pony.

gamboa certainly had the sort of athleticism that can wow you. he also ahd a style that put his athletic quality on display.

i've been wowwed before and since, though. gamboa's athletic style also led him to taking big shots on the chin, and his chin would promptly let him down. he was no muhammad ali in that respect. ali would get in trouble with his athleticism, and his chin would make up for it.

he's much more athletic than those three, especially ward and danny.

i don't think the TS is talking about ability in the ring, only athletic quality. gamboa was a freak athlete.

i think he's all done. huge layoffs, higher weights, PED scandals, and promotional issues.

gamboa - juanma should ahve happened. it would have been a great chance for gamboa to be in a great fight, and get a big win.

that the biggest little fight in boxing at one time.

I liked Gamboa the offensive fighter a lot, the guy who would get knocked down and come back and knock you out in the same round. That fighter is gone though, alas. Maybe he'll come to his senses and go back down to 126 or 130, he's just not cutting it as a lightweight.

i'd love to see it happen, but that's rare.\

gamboa would have been a wildly exciting fighter if he was moved right. it's a damn shame that he squandered much of his prime in the amateurs, and then threw the rest away by signing with 50 cent and getting busted for ped's.

Gamboa had good defense, he just came forward wrecklessly sometimes and got caught, with tremendous power, good footwork, crazy fast hands, pretty accurate, threw alot of punches too. He WAS the whole package, weather or not he still is though, i don't know.
