There's no reason to think he wouldn't have held his own and been one of the best. He might beat Hagler prime for prime, though I'd personally favor Hagler.

Hopkins is a throwback fighter from days gone by so I think he could have been champion in the 80s. His style fits any era.

Hagler is a 50/50 fight, or 55/45 in Hopkins favor (too smart).

          Hopkins KOs Hearns.

Someone said Hopkins couldn't get past Taylor lol he was 40 in both fights, his work rate dropped a lot around the age of 38. Talk about a prime Hopkins please.

So? He was 28 when a 24 year old Roy Jones gave him a boxing lesson. He was 29 when he got dropped twice by Segundo Mercado in a 12 round draw.

His best middleweight win came when he was 37-38 against Trinidad, a career welterweight.

I see him having trouble with Hagler's jab the same way he did with Roy's, whoever wins the fight goes the full 12.

Hopkins is one of the fighters in our era that can go into any era. There's only about 5 or 6 that I can say that about.

Lol Hagler and Roy are completely different. Jabs totally different.

Prime Roy probably beats Hagler too

So what if he got knocked down by Segundo Mercado, that was the only time he was ever dropped in is career until he was 46.

It's really hard to pick anyone to win against prime Roy to be fair though.

On topic though, fantasy fights are sort of hard to do in different eras. It's very hard to accurately judge fighters when they don't really share a lot of time with different opponents. Was hearns and hagler monsters? Yeah probably...but also maybe they weren't you can't judge things that way but I'll do it anyhow. Hearns would probably keep Hopkins at bay with reach and jab, Hopkins wouldn't be able to get in to rough him up. If you could keep Hopkins out you could win. Hagler on the other hand, I think Hopkins chances are 50/50 depending on how it plays out...not a blow out by any means though, people seem to think Hopkins is some small middleweight when he's def not. He can **** and take a punch, and isn't afraid of anyone...he wouldn't be afraid to get inside and hold and maul hagler.

It's like that in all sports though, the past had different rules and especially in a global sport, not everyone was able to compete at the world level. I don't say I agree with it, but to claim the end all be all the older fighters are better..is insane.

Hagler would beat him, and quite comfortably I might add. I think that Hagler is superior in almost every category to Bernard besides possibly defense, which is still debatable. I'm a big B-Hop fan but I can't see a scenario in which he beats Hagler.
