"hey, i'm the champ at 140 and 147" ... i want the lions share of the money, and voila! you have no fights w/ cotto and floyd.
You have a point with Maussa, that was just a belt.

But not so with Baldomir. Baldomir has won the linear championship. He is THE CHAMPION at 147, period. I don't think you can criticize any fighter for wanting to win the true championship- that is what boxing has always been about. You're right about belts mean ****, but you have to respect the lineage.

as much of a hatton fan i am, cotto and maywether are still hard fights for him, why not have a little more experience, numbers on his records, anyway "baldy" offerd hatton the fight first(announced on KOTV), and baya whats wrong with having all the belts, holyfield got into the guinness records for having the most belts at one time, this is why most people remember or have herd of him.

If Cotto jumped up to 147 just to obtain a belt from a loser like Baldomir, he would be ridiculed like no other.

i see your point as a valid one, but lineage bro, thats just a word to me .. that would almost imply that because dariuz m. was the linear champ while rjj was another champ, that dariuz m. was somehow better than rjj. not so, bro.

baldomir loses that belt in his 1st defense. does nothing for the respectability of the word "lineage" ...

nah dude, people remember evander for his wars agains qawi, bowe and beating the monster tyson. not belts dude.

and to clarify, theres nothing wrong w/ having the belts, at all! i'm just saying that these belts while great, are meaningless when won at the hands of people like maussa and baldomir. they're recycled - imagine if baldy gives the shot to gatti instead of hatton - gatti wins that fight hands down for me ... and lets say, that now mayweather wants to just punish gatti again, and they fight ... will the word "linear" mean anything to all the people who would crucify floyd for killing an italian?

            God bless Evander

Somebody has to fight Baldomir. It would be better that he lose to Hatton that to Gatti or a lesser fighter.
Anyway, as long as Hatton makes his second American fight a tougher one than the first, I don't see a problem.

hatton doesn't have to fight him. he sees the EASIEST fight w/ the BIGGEST reward. does nothing to solidify anything in the eyes of real fans of the sport. the 2nd fight in america doesn't sound any better, he may fight baldy and gatti and go back across the pond. maybe even rabah or freitas! when the likes of cotto/mayweather/gatti/margarito/witter are out there. this is supposed to be his coming out party, like 40+ fights dude, c'mon already.

i'm tellin' u all - hes getting these belts to gain advantage at the negotiating table so the fights can fall through and then say "see, they don't want to fight me, i'm the 2 division champ, i should make the lions share" ...
