GGG speaks better English than Canelo or Broner

push them to do well? how are you gonna do that? keep feeding them with tomato cans?

gtfo with your fanboy mentality...if they can't be top fighters in the ring then who cares about potential popularity?

You guys are thinking a bit short sighted. Think about the big picture.

You say you don't care about the sport having big stars because it's the network stars you're most interested in. But think about the draw PPV stars give to those non-PPV network cards? Think about how many casual fans who in the absence of major boxing stars wouldn't even consider looking at a non-PPV card? Showtime in 2013 decided to invest heavily in boxing programming off the heels of who? Floyd Mayweather. Maybe Showtime doesn't put on so many monster cards in 2013 if it wasn't for the attention Floyd drew to Showtime? Maybe without Showtime having a monster year in 2013 (partially due to Floyd), they cut back their budget in 2014 and we get a bunch mediocre cards less often?

The stars of the sport elevate the entire boat.

I love guys like GGG, Thurman, Rigo, Ward etc. But most of these guys aren't going to be big draws. And guess what? They don't need to! They can still fight on regular HBO/Showtime cards for us to enjoy. But the better the sport does overall, the more likely the networks are going to invest in these guys because the more fans will engage in the sport.

Your comprehension is lacking. I'm not saying protect them. Broner is trying to rematch Maidana immediately after an ass whipping and Canelo is fighting Angulo after Mayweather...hardly tomato cans so we are good there.

My point is that we should WANT the sport to have at least a couple major PPV stars because it helps the sport as a whole. If you got better heirs than Broner and Canelo, please state them...meaning state fighters who draw more viewers than these two guys (except May and Pac) because that's all that matters for the sake of this discussion.

Golovkin and Thurman have every chance if they keep winning. Ward and Rigo, not so much.

Not really, who cares if the sport or fighters are mainstream there will always be fighters, networks that air fight and people who want to watch fights.

Boxing DOESNT NEED ppv fights to thrive! All it needs are great match ups and willing participants! End thread
