Why McNeely's corner stopped the fight against Tyson

Here we have Tom McNeely, Peter's dad, facing Floyd Patterson in 1961.
In this fight starting with knockdowns in the first round, McNeely was knocked down ELEVEN times. Also I should mention a frustration headbutt made by Tom in the 4th round.

Fast forward to 1995, Tom's son, Peter McNeely is facing Tyson in which he is knocked down once, and twice where he is shown to be very shaken. Tom McNeely definitely saw shades of himself against Patterson watching his son fight Iron Mike leading him to stop the fight.

It was a mismatch, they saved Peter McNeeley's live by stopping it. Could have stopped it after the intros and no one would have complained.

First 10 seconds of the fight, everyone in the crowd was probably like "WTF???"

This is an event that never should have happened. There were so many other fighters more deserving of Tyson at that time. Huge embarrassment for the sport of boxing, Don King, Tyson and everyone else involved.

Probably because the dad got like $1000 to fight Patterson and needed the win while the son got a guaranteed couple of mil so why being ****** and fight on in a fight you can never win.

Hopefully they bought a Irish bar or something and are doing well.

He wanted to save Tyson from being wrapped up in a cocoon of horror!

He robbed us of a great finish. mcNeeley was game to go down swinging. Definitely could have seen a highlight reel KO at least.

Easy there, I know Peter personally and he froze. He was having problems outside the ring & with all the media attention before the fight started. He was a decent club level/journeyman fighter hand-picked to fight Tyson.

Seemed like post-prison Tyson had his opponents quaking in their boots more than a prime Mike Tyson. McKneely, Seldon, Bruno, Golota, Francis and Norris all were petrified of the Tyson aura and were too scared to fight 'the baddest man on the planet'.
Even though he was a shadow of his former self.

It's so hilarious how mcNeeley came out like a bull and got clocked right in the face. Still cracks me up to this day.

To think this fight did over a million PPVs.

Because they realized he was in over his head and didn't want him to get beaten up.

                    It's quite hilarious.

                    That mullet.
