Oughta be Geale without a doubt, but I'm guessing they might figure they can get Kirkland cheaper and he brings better US name recognition.

I'll be very disappointed if they go down the Kirkland route if the Geale fight's a realistic option - at some point they need to start putting up the money for the proven MW names.

Kirkland does have plenty of experience at MW but obviously his biggest wins have been at JMW. Not that it's a bad fight, but it just doesn't do much for GGGs credentials at 160.

I'd love it to be Geale or Sturm (although Felix looks like he's defending against Murray).

Sturm is never fighting GGG. He's staying in Germany, fighting in his backyard and never steeping foot in the ring with GGG.

They need to have GGG/Geale and Kirkland/Stevens on the same card. If Kirkland dominates Stevens, then that will naturally be GGG's next HBO bout.

could be Geale or Kirkland. I also just realized that Jarrod Fletcher (ranked #3 by the WBA, right behind Geale) is on GGG's Monaco undercard. Those are the only three options I think.

So according to my statement and Kirkland's recent resume he is not a JMW period (felt obliged to add that idiom).
It's common for fighters to fight above their normal weight class with some catchweight for non title fights so it's it's slightly easier to make weight. There's no need to sacrifice yourself unless there's something on the line. A lot of those middleweight/super middleweight fights were just tuneups directly after his prison stint, and he obviously needed some time to work his way back to his proper weight class.

Kirkland is a big a guy though so he would be fine at middleweight if he wasn't chinny.

lol, kirkland was just on the shelf for almost 2 years. before being on the shelf, he was campaigning at jmw. he's never really campaigned at mw to be honest and hes never even looked good at the weight. yes fighters move up and down in weight occasionally. does that make him a mw? no. he is a jmw contender and thats where he obviously thinks he belongs. why the hell do i even have to state this? are ppl's nut hugging that ridiculous? no matter how u look at it kirkland is not a legit mw challenge. he does not qualify as "cleaning out the middle weight division."

I know Kirkland has been in with better guys then Canelo for sure...If GGG fought Canelo, a guy who weighs 172 on fight night would that be an issue as well?
Murray,Martinez,Sturm want no part of GGG at this point. Gaele turned down the fight in Monaco to try and land an HBO date so its not like GGG is ducking any of them.
