I don't think we Cubans think all our fighters are "untouchable" at all. What might make it appear so is that we have very few pros (50-60 worldwide); but the overall level of quality is extremely high. We currently have four current world champions, not including interim champs. That puts us fourth on the list of leading countries, behind the U.S., Japan and Mexico, all countries with populations many times that of Cuba. The few fighters we have are good. At least one is the very best in his division. We are right to support them.
Applause ...... For this thoughtful well written post that unfortunately IMO will fall on deaf ears ... Shame.

I haven't been keeping up with it, but it's clear that the regime is trying to stem the tide of defecting athletes by allowing some form of monetary compensation in Cuban sports. They've allowed boxers to participate in the WSB, and I've heard that they're starting a similar effort with baseball. We might look back someday and realize this was the beginning of the end for communism in Cuba.

          Thank you.

Sometimes noise starts very softly, then it eventually reaches a volume that can no longer be ignored. It's already started....

That's great news . I remember hearing bout the wsb . I really want it to end there .Think this side may still have a lil grudge judging from the article Art-illery posted the other day about the banks and not paying Cuban boxers . But it definitely seems better , **** ***** shaked Raul's hand lol.

It's called boxing buddy . The sport is boxing , that's what they do. Maybe they're confused by the name.

I'm not sure how it all works, but Abril is one of the few Cubans that can travel freely to the U.S. and return to his home on the island. Never heard of it before him.
It's not hard to travel back and forth. As long as you have a green card or citizenship and left Cuba LEGALLY then you're good to go.

And it's not a few. Plenty of people can travel back and forth.

There are lots of different styles within the Cuban ranks. Apparently, you don't know this. No one would call cruiserweight champ Yoan Pablo Hernandez boring. Did you catch Mike Perez's last fight? Epic. Gamboa, his last two fights notwithstanding, is about as electrifying as they come. There are several guys in the WSB that would make very exciting pros.

With all due respect to Mexican fighters, the ones who are "selling-out stadiums" are selling out to Mexican crowds. Few fighters from anywhere in the world sell-out to people other than their own. Sergio Martinez is one of my favorite fighters, but he's not selling-out shit in the U.S.
