Holyfield deserves a reward

I think it's already happened, but it will probably be a long time before mainstream churches allow it. Never say never, though. The Catholic Church is very rigid in its stances, but the last two popes have been increasingly tolerant of gays. Interracial marriage was once taboo, but now it's quite common.

i'm led to believe that most of the gay marriages in MA are performed by the state, and not in churches. the marriages are binding, though, and do include all of the rights and benefits that come with being married.

That's the point. Holyfield never said gays should be killed,segregated, punished, etc. he didn't even say he disliked gays.

I understand that, but Holyfield's comments were ******, ignorant and offensive. Do you believe a doctor can change a person's sexual orientation? I hope not. It's ignorant because the procedure doesn't exist. It's ****** because to assume doctors have that ability is like assuming they can make you eight feet tall. Finally, it's offensive because saying those things implies that you're diseased if you like people of the same sex.

The fact that those comments came from a celebrity makes it all the worse. There are a lot of impressionable people in the world. They tend to digest the remarks of people they respect. If Holyfield said he thought gays were no different than the rest of us and should be allowed to marry, it would probably help to change the outlook of a few people.

You have a right to kill in self-defense, not to kill indiscriminately. The same goes for the right to free speech.

Freedom of speech is a privilege that people shouldn't take advantage of.

I was born to take things that aren't mine, hit people when I'm angry, and have sex with multiple women regularly, but I choose not to do those thigs because I believe they are wrong.

Striking people when you're angry and stealing things are crimes. You are injuring people that do not wish to be injured. They are not consenting. Two consenting males (or females) having sexual relations is not criminal because it doesn't injure anyone.

Having regular sex with multiple women is more of a moral and philosophical issue. In my opinion, it's okay, as long as you and the women you're bedding are okay with it. If someone is being hurt, like an unknowing wife, it's wrong, but not on a criminal level.

Public figures who come out and say something ****** like "it can be cured by a doctor" feed those above mentioned elements in a gay persons life. It's idiotic and sad.

The two of you, I assume based on your ignorant answers to this thread, are completely unaware of how the 27 books of the New Testament has been incorrectly translated from its original Greek, to latin, to Lutheran and has lost a lot of it's meaning through time resulting in false meanings in the modern bible.

Interesting information. I don't watch much news. Too much of it is depressing. But I catch wind of the bigger items. Some of that stuff was in the back of my mind.

I can see some of the more progressive churches allowing gay marriage, but it's likely to be a long time before the Catholic Church allows it, if ever. The church is steeped in tradition, so change is very slow to come. It speaks volumes that the current and previous pope have started to reach out to gay men and women.

There's nothing wrong with being gay. But I don't think gay marriage will ever be allowed in churches. Marriage is a religious ceremony and any priest who was a Christian that would let gay people marry would be a hypocrit to his own beliefs. It would be like a ****** priest telling ******s that Jesus was the only prophet. It would go against what the religion was about.
