Cotto is crazy taking this fight. Not that Martinez is so great because he really isnt, but style wise this is very bad for Cotto and he is gonna pay with his health

For cotto to win he needs to follow the murray blueprint

1. keeps his guard high and tight and not allow serg to potshot.. Cotto should be able to do this, he was effective in blocking alot of floyd's lead right unlike victor ortiz

2. use the jab and double jab to force serg backwards

3. attack the body to slow serg down after a few rounds

4. stay aggressive


If cotto can do those things, i think he has a shot of slowing serg down, and taking over after 6 rounds and with the crowd behind him, i can see cotto getting a close decision unlike murray

Prime or not prime Sergio has a problem with the jab because of his style and he also has a problem with high guard defense. Cotto has the best jab in boxing and as proven against Floyd his high guard is very hard to penetrate especially since he moved to 154 with those big ass 10oz gloves to cover up for him. Also Sergio Martinez has NEVER faced a fighter with the skills Miguel Cotto has and that will be a big deal when the two meet up in june.

I think Cotto will win by late TKO in a career defining win for the ages.

The problem Cotto faces in this fight is the price he'll pay for trying to get close and batter Martinez's body. If he does that he'll expose himself to lefts to the body and very hard right hooks. Remember, in the Floyd fight, the one punch that really got through Cotto's guard was the looping right. And in close, Martinez isn't that easy to beat. He showed a very good inside game against Chavez. He used his shoulder to prevent Chavez from throwing lefts to the body and made good use of his left uppercut, another punch Mayweather used with great effect against Cotto.

Yeah, I don't see this turning out well for Cotto either and I think RJJ is correct. Not sure Cotto is really going to have the power to put it on Martinez. He lacks the stamina too.

Is Sergio's stamina elite or something all the sudden? Middle rounds, since the first time I watched him, he tires and slows. Every single fight. Only fight he didn't as much was Chavez Jr., but he also wasn't being pressed at all. Sergio isn't just going to breeze through 12 and be fine at the end. He's going to get tired.
