"Negro" is used in spanish speaking countries because it means "black". If thats what they use in Russia to refer to blacks, whats the problem? Heaven forbid a word in another language sounds like an english one that offends. Nacho calls everybody negro and negrito and Roger calls all the white guys white boys but nobody can say "black"? It's really only the secret racists who get offended. I'm not sure a regular person even cares... Like they say in spanish "El que busca encuentra".
A few people want more people to be offended or have a huge sense of entitlement and want to be offended. Nothing to see here.

This sentence in particular bothered me because its flat out wrong on almost every level conceivable. Simply because someone is offended by a word or phrase doesn't make them "secret racists," what it does make them is a different individual with a different life experience than yours. You may not agree with it, but to dismiss it so flippantly as secret racism is pretty shallow imho. You can't stir up emotions among others where none exist, that is to say, unless you've been personally touched by racism I don't believe one could be persuaded to feel a false sense of grievance.

As an African American I try to stay away from these conversations because they don't usually end well here and its hard on a human level to read comments from posters that are clueless, entitled and unwilling to have some empathy for the experiences of other people. So much of this stuff is directed at Floyd Mayweather. I wonder sometimes do our non-black posters give two ****s about people who don't happen to share their skin tone? I really wonder that sometimes.....

If we had more concrete evidence then I'd call him racist but I wont jump the gun. Kovalev doesnt seem like the type of dude to be fake and smile then be racist behind closed doors... Not like anyone he directed his racism to could take him. :/... He's no youtube warrior after all. I'll give him the benefit of the doubt.

But I think its really important to point out that "racism" is a loaded term, but its a word I don't think fits here, especially when someone from a ****geneous society like Kovalev uses a word like the one he used. The best way to describe Kovalev is "clueless." Some people simply have no concept of the power some words carry in different cultures. So imagine if we were in the Japanese culture and used the word "hentai" like its used in American culture, we'd probably get a few looks because it means pervert(ed). So it wouldn't be the responsibility of the Japanese to adjust their culture but its up to the visitor to that culture to raise their awareness.

Whether Kovalev could defend himself from all comers is different mindset altogether (a ridiculous one) than taking the time to understand others and avoid all that. We all have different life experiences and I think its unfair to ask people to forget their lives simply because others want the freedom to use culturally offensive words.

We all have something to learn in these regards.....

Can people just let this **** go and move on? I am black and I really don't even care that much. People act like this guy is so important that his views and opinions should matter. I can understand if he was at the level of Floyd or Manny and even a Ward or Bradley but he is just some hype job. If he grows into some big star then I can assure you these things will come to surface and he will have to explain himself more properly.
