If Cotto beats Martinez, does Mayweather go up to 160 to rematch him and try to win the Middleweight strap? He could very well beat Cotto at that weight in a legacy defining win.

I think Floyd would catch some stick if this ever played out...He would be accused of going after someone he has already beaten for a belt that was previously held by someone that many feel he wants to avoid etc etc...

But I would enjoy the fight, there is a bit of a background to it (New title for Floyd Cotto's good effort last time, "That son of a ***** was tough", etc) but I think he would be slated for going after a guy he has already beaten rather than go after someone that some people want him to fight, and in my opinion, his legacy would be better off if he took the title from Sergio than Miguel.

Just theorising though, might not ever even play out that way, we need to see Cotto-Martinez first before a Floyd-Cotto rematch is discussed. Intresting though...

GGG hasn't beaten anyone.....he is not the man at mw. The dude has beaten nothing but bums and that makes him the man?

He has beaten enough rated middleweights that he has been rated #1 in the world for over a year by Boxrec Ring Magazine, boxing scene and almost everyone else. He is the middleweight the other top middleweights won't fight and he is the guy Martinez won't fight so hell yes GGG is the man.
Cotto lost two fights in a row at 154 to Trout and Mayweather so how other than money and getting to fight a smaller guy does Martinez justify even giving him a title shot? If Martinez had fought GGG like he should have over a year ago he would not be middleweight champ. He hangs on to the title by ducking the top middleweights. He is no Marvin Hagler, that's for sure.

I agree, Cotto will not beat Martinez. But lets say he does. I definitely think Mayweather fights him for the MW title. Why not? People tried to make more our of the 4 rounds that Cotto won in their fight. So I can see this fight easily being hyped. And it will be an easy sell.

That would be a pretty cool scenario, and i can see it happening if cotto beats serg...

Floyd doesnt have many "marquee" opponents left, and a cotto rematch for the Lineal MW title would do bigger business than fights with garcia, khan, maidana, etc

And if floyd wins the lineal MW belt, that will only enhance his already great resume, and would be about the only thing besides a manny fight, that could propel him higher in terms of ATG rankings
