even though he doesn't necessarily deserve it based on his accomplishments over the past 12 months, it's still nice to see him receiving mainstream recognition. with accolades like this under his belt it'll be hard for potential opponents to keep ignoring him.

Why would Stevenson win fighter of the year? This dude beat 2 guys coming off losses. One of them was coming off of a career ruining beating.

But I blame HBO for always clouding people's judgement.

Lol... even Golden Boy's own magazine can't even get it's readers to vote in one of their guys. Not a good look.

They're going to have to use that home cookin that they used to put Broner in at #6 P4P to give one of their own the honor.

agreed with all except kov, GGG should be ahead of kov in 2013.

No way, Kovalev arguably had a better year than Stevenson.

Yeah, he KO'd two top 5 opponents and two decent contenders inside 12 rounds.

You guys think Kov above Stevenson?

Steven stopped the best guy in the division, then he beat on a legit contender and stopped him and he annihilated a former champ who is better than almost anyone on Kov's resume, and that's not even Stevenson's best win in 2013. He also avenged his only loss.

                    Noway is Kov above Stev

"The readers' choice for Fighter of the Year received less than one quarter of all votes cast. That says something about what took place in 2013.
(...) Tim Bradley, Danny Garcia, Gennady Golovkin, Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Adonis Stevenson all received more than 10 percent of the vote for their efforts."

Therefore the Ring readers chose Golovkin as FOY -- even if he didn't fight a "world champ" during 2013!!!
