Remove the two top promoters and the fight will happen? No, I don't think so, this isn't magical thinking where we get to wish up a scenario out of thin air. These guys don't want to co-promote a fight of that magnitude, not unreasonably they both want to make as much as possible. Besides, nothing happens without those two involved.

Arum has more pull at HBO than he should, that is HBO's fault for getting emotional over Floyd dumping them. HBO needs talent for boxing and the only person with enough talent to cover their needs while doing 0 business with GBP is Arum. If they want to show boxing and have quality product they need Arum, until they are willing to deal with GBP again or possibly someone else comes up but that takes time. You said the moviestar..but not the agent and that's the point..both stars here want this payday and this fight..it's the agents that don't want it unless it's on their terms. You give Arum wayyyy too much credit and power over HBO. Arum clearly works for Manny because they put a monetary value on a set of opponents and let him pick...they don't say you are fighting this guy and making that much money for it whether you want to or not.
Who produces those offers? Arum so he can rig the deck so the ones he wants are the ones that look the best. Seriously Arum is a smart guy in both ways street and book and Manny thinks he knows what is what but Arum can play him like a fiddle.
Also the moviestar thing, if an executive who shorted me in the past never settling up on the matter, trusting them on a bigger deal is rather tough.Comment

If Arum is not involve in this fight then am guessing it's one obstacle, HBO still would have a say doe, at the end of the day this fight should have happened in March 2010 when Mayweather called Team Pacquiao's bluff and accept the fight. The rest is history now team Pac walked away from the table over a random drug test.Comment

man shut that castillo crap up, i watch that fight like 5 times and saw floyd winning every time. castillo has a hard chin and doesnt get hurt, thats not floyds fault, but he out pointed him EASY.Comment

Well then you got my REAL POINT in this. Everyone saying Arum should take money to step aside..like Schaeffer would. I'm glad someone here understands this isn't about the fighters at all and never really was. I don't understand the issue in co-promoting since both benefit hugely from it and make a mint from it as well. You can go right back to hating each other after that and we wouldn't care at all. I would rather be half the equation to the biggest moment in a sport I do business with than none at all.Remove the two top promoters and the fight will happen? HBO welcomes all promoters, except GBP. Of course the biggest guy will have the most influence, but it's not like they're a TR house network like Showtime is for GBPArum has more pull at HBO than he should, that is HBO's fault for getting emotional over Floyd dumping them. He wouldn't be taking less money. He'd probably make more money by stepping aside. He gets whatever percentage of Manny's purse that they've agreed on. Plus, he'd receive a step aside fee. He still gets his allotment of tix. He still gets to have his Top Rank banners plasted all over the promotion. The only thing that would change is that he physically be involved in making the fight. They're basically paying him to go away. Why should he? If he made the same offer to Schaeffer do you think he'd accept that? No...this is what people fail to understand..why in the world would you want to remove yourself from the biggest fight in boxing history..you'd be a fool to do so. Would you take less for stepping aside from the biggest deal closing of your life? I think not.
As for why didn't Schaefer accept the same deal from Arum in regards to Donaire-Mares? I don't know. But I would assume for many of the same reasons Arum won't accept one now. EGO.
At the end of the day. Arum, Pac, and all involved on Manny's side need to realize is that Manny is the B-side. Manny is the opponent. And he's probably gonna have to bend over to get this fight. And to real, Manny has no one to blame but himself. He ****ed around and ****ed around. And then got his ass kicked, and lost bargaining power. Then, he PPV sales went way down. And he lost even more leverage. So if Floyd is truly who he wants. He's gonna have to do what he has to do.Comment

Arum works for HBO not the other way around..the worker does not dictate to the employer and the person cutting the checks. Just like Schaeffer and Oscar can only suggest things to Espinoza but not demand them. GBP got it's rise on HBO..the showtime deal is brand spanking new and they were #1 before jumping to Showtime so that argument makes zero sense..hell HBO was still giving guys like Broner easy payday's in the Gavin Rees and Demarco bouts. If an agent shortened you...again back to the fantasy that Floyd is owed money from the Gatti fight..the lack of lawsuit indicates that's pure speculation and untrue. Considering Floyd was in the hole to the IRS himself and nearly bankrupt I doubt he wouldn't have sued the living shhh out of Arum for his money and guess what he didn't. He also had ties to Top Rank until the last bell of the Oscar fight.Arum has more pull at HBO than he should, that is HBO's fault for getting emotional over Floyd dumping them. They are beholden to Top Rank at the moment, because they need them if they want to show boxing on the top level because they do have a decent quantity of quality players. The smaller players have a couple guys each maybe that HBO wants, HBO could not fill it's calender with just them.
Arum said before he wouldn't work with Showtime so all he had was HBO, instead of using this to their advantage HBO cut bait with GBP thus forcing them into that relationship with Top Rank.Comment
