    Fighting former sparring partners

Seeing threads such as Wladimir Klitschko v Wilder got me thinking - why is it ok to want top fighters to fight former sparring partners in some instances yet ridicule them on other occasions? For example, when Wlad fought Pianeta he was a similar type of prospect as Wilder, sure without the KO record and same degree of athleticism but similar padded record, and Wlad was ridiculed by many for fighting a former sparring partner. So, why do people want Wilder to fight him when he was a partner on more occasions and apparently was dropped by a Wlad jab? (Dunno if that was ever confirmed).

I don't see a problem with fighting sparring partners. If anything, it makes the fight more interesting to me.

To be honest some fights where foes were once sparring partners often make the best fights here are some random scraps that come to mind:

      Holyfield/Bowe trilogy

      Lewis/Mccall 1

      Even cheating a s s Margarito/P. Williams to name a few.

Larry Holmes was Mohammed Ali's former sparring partner and when they fought, he knew exactly what to do..
Ali was over the hill in his boxing career, more help for Holmes..

sparring partners mean nothing & I don't take much out of it because tye fields was sent home twice from a training camp when he was apparently kicking Rahman & arreola's butts sparring. just a rumor I heard when he came back from both camps. fights with both fell through but i'm sure both would have crushed him...

Mares used to spar for Gonzales when he was coming up. Once he made it to the top Mares gave him a shot and Gonzales proceeded to ko him.

And Froch said he used to beat up Groves in sparring, he had him in trouble.
They say Wilder was Wlads main sparring partner and they would spar together a lot. Wilder knows the secret to icing Wlad

Work long enough with a fighter and you'll learn their weaknesses and how to exploit them even if the other guys is the better fighter.
