    also his networth

5mil compared to floyds 250 mil
I think it comes down to plain old marketing and Martinez isn't a compelling figure, and this all the more amplified by the language barrier. You have to be able to sell yourself well about be easily sold by someone else. Imho Sergio was poorly marketed.

His networth is way more than 5 million. Chavez fight was on PPV, his last event in Argentina was the most gate cash in the country history, his book was for months in the bestsellers in Argentina, the dance shows, his promoting company, atleast two boxing gyms. Dont worry about Sergio,he's doing right.

weird OP, in the event this is a serious thread:
Martinez doesn't have superstar quality; star but not superstar
he finished of Pavlik's reign and had 2 exciting fights with Williams
the rematch where he KO'd him put him on a pedestal briefly
but he didn't have anything to do after that on the grand scale
he got Chavez, which was a big event and a good performance
but Chavez wasn't respected enough for that to make a big impact
and he's going downhill fast anyway, he was at his peak in 2010

After Williams he fought a lot of bums on HBO. If the Chavez Jr fight was competitive maybe it would have mattered more. Martinez is who he is... He is never going to be bigger than he is unless he gets a win over Mayweather. I seriously doubt he can beat Mayweather. Beating Cotto or Alvarez wouldn't change things either.

You have to beat a super star to become a super star, Mayweather and Pacquiao fought De La Hoya. Before the De La Hoya fight Mayweather was doing around 325,000 ppvs fighting Baldomir. Pacquaio had done 250,000 ppvs against David Diaz 6 months prior.

Post De La Hoya, Mayweather and Pac were also able to fight highly marketed fighters on a consistent basis: Alvarez, Cotto, Ortiz, Mosely, Hatton, Marquez, etc.

If Martinez would have gotten a big ppv against De La Hoya (and won like he should have) and gotten to fight some of the name fighters he wanted at 154 (Forrest, Cotto, Angulo, Kirkland, etc.), he may have become a big star.

As it is, he's still had a good career and has made a lot of money anyway (much of it outside boxing).
