He's been retired, the fight before this one he was getting his ass whooped before the cut, managed to get some home cooking and kept the belt.

    Not surprised really.

Haven't seen the fight in years but I thought John deserved the decision against Marquez. He finally fought in the US and got an iffy draw against Juarez. I think that discouraged him from ever coming back here.

Chris was a very good fighter. I watched that Marquez fight about 3 times, and I still wonder how so many claim Marquez won it.

He was also a nice guy. I remember him having Gatti written across his trunks in his rematch with Juarez to pay tribute. A quite unassuming champion. He never chased the accolades, but was a pure pro.

The finest retirement speech I have ever read or heard. He will go down in boxing history as a very good boxer but vastly unappreciated, and completely unknown to all but true boxing fans.

the majority of crude, ignorant comments here show this. Fortunately there are a few genuine boxing fans too.

Surpassed Calzaghe, almost reached Marciano status. Goodbye champ.

I'm one who felt Marquez won. I thought he schooled John.

I give you credit for watching that fight 3 times though. Such sh-t quality and crazy language, no offense to any Indonesian here.

Exactly. His speech was one of pure pride and love of the sport and his fans. How can people hate on that?
