The guy who gave Maidana the crown was Martinez' old strength and conditioning coach, Cecilio Flores. It was probably his idea to give it to Martinez the first time.

That's cool. I like how it gave Martinez and Maidana a kind of "regal" aura when they'd won their big fights. Also, it seems like all the popular Argentine fighters have an M for their last name - Monzon, Martinez, Maidana, Matthysse...
