Comments Thread For: Sergio Martinez Gives High Praise To Marcos Maidana

WBC middleweight champion Sergio “Maravilla” Martinez gave high praise to his Argentine countryman Marcos "Chino" Maidana. He says the newly crowned WBA welterweight champion deserves the "Olimpia de Oro" award, for last Saturday's sensational performance against previously undefeated Adrien Broner.

“Chino is great, he's just great. He's earned the Olimpia de Oro,” Martinez said.

say what you want about broner, but maidana beating him has launched him to super star status!! maidana might be in some pepsi commercials here before to long! he could of beat a lot of people that night and wouldn't get the hype hes getting now. everyone is talking about this fight, if someone were to ever beat Floyd they would get a nobel peace prize and become president!

I'm guessing the Olimpia de Oro award in Argentina is the equivalent of the Sports Personality of the Year award in the UK.

Ain't that the truth, but he's too smart to (cherry)pick the wrong fight.

There's a feelgood factor surrounding boxing right now with the defeat of Broner, lol the public reaction reminded me of the euphoria after Osama was assassinated. It seems for many he and Floyd cast a negative shadow over the sport, the public love it when the good guys win.

lol Nice win by "Chino", but Broner was overhyped...good, but overhyped. I think people are more excited at the fact that Broner's annoying ass was STFU. I know I am.

Honestly, I had no fear whatsoever of Broner taking Floyd's place. But at only 24 years old, I was already weary of Broner's "persona." He's beyond annoying. Maidana did us all a big favor and spared us another minute of that clown's hype.

A lot of people hated him but Broner's antics never really bothered me that much because I always felt it was an act. Agree on the hype though, he was way over-praised because he was imitating Mayweather.

yep that's all it really is! it could of been me or you beating broner and we'd be international heros lol he needed the whoopin and most of us knew it was coming but it came extra fast with this matchup! wish broner would of went to 140 first like a smart man and tested things there, its not too late but had he moved slower and took time to learn he could of went to 147 this time next year and been ready MAYBE
