What's to stop the new 'champion' from holding it hostage? If Wilder gets his hands on it, he'll fight endless bums until Wlad retires.

Vitali is a good fighter IMO.

It's a shame his resume is so awful.

I believe that the fact Lennox never gave him a rematch and he failed in his biggest fight never completely left Vitali..

IMO the part of the reason he came back in 2008 is that he was still hoping in that rematch.

The HW's are filled with bums so there is no stopping that. But fighting lesser bums here and there between prolonged bouts of inactivity is what Vitali did. I can sleep easier at night now.

Vitali was a great champion had an ATG chin (never been knocked down) I really liked him more than his brother and at one time thought he was better. Old age and injuries finally caught up with him. Time for a new champion to be crowned or Wald will just beat someone and take this belt too.

Awful is right. We're basically saying goodbye to a paper champ who counts his loss to Lennox Lewis as his greatest victory. So long, champ! Maybe Wladimir will get the respect he deserves that went to his big brother for way too long.

there is no denial that Wlad's resume is way superior to Vitali's but that doesn't take anything from the fact that Vitali was something special.

Only few champions in the history of the sport would be favorites against prime Vitali. He would hold his own against pretty much anybody.

Wladimir will be ducked by every contender now. Whoever picks up the WBC strap will become the target.

                      Sucks for Wlad.
