There you go... that means the Klitschko's are DEFENDING MANY more titles in there defenses so even if they trail by one.. you can say they have more title defenses... thx & now I see why you wanted to word it 'championship' defenses.Comment

More titles splits up the "championship" if we want to be picky wlad isn't even the champ now because Vitali has a portion of the championship.Comment

Yeah but only one titlist to get the strap... The Klitschko's have beaten 4 just to be recognized as undisputed.. so unless these fine folks at the forums think beating one belt holder is more difficult than to beat 4 separate titlists to get the same recognition.. then your post is greatly flawed... Joe LOUIS 25 title defenses in a row.. The Klitschko's have about 40 titles defended in a row.Comment

the Klits should fight each other, that way there's 1 HW champ, and that would be good for boxing.Comment

Individulally both Klitschko's have disputed championships.. cumulatively they are the Undisputed heavyweight champions of the world & have been so for almost two & a half yrs.Comment

You can't compare the 1940's system to the present. They both have it's flaws.
In one, you could hold on to your title for years and not get stripped, contenders could be ducked and deprived of a title shot forever because they're not connected; The title could be controlled by the mafia etc,.
And now you have four sanctioning body organizations with it's own faults. Wlad Klitschko might have an asterisk attached to his title defenses but I still view the full 15 title defenses as 15 title defenses. As in, he won a Title defended it until he won more titles and unified. He didn't become a "REAL" Champion because he defeated Ibragimov (who also wasn't a real Champion) or Chagaev (who wasn't a real Champion) or David Haye (who definitely wasn't a real champion).
It's his total accumulations of Championship wins that makes him a REAL CHAMPION. The overall body of work and the clear/dominant and consistent manner in which he did it (I.E. no split decision/robbery controversies).
So yes, all of his title defenses count.Comment

They count as title defences not as Championship defences, he didn't become Champion until Chagaev.Comment
