Maidana hits hard but he gases and if you hit the body the threat drops off drastically more.

      A few interesting facts guys.

Remember that in the Khan fight Maidana went down on a hard body shot. His power was lessened by that. He is very weak to the body. Also he is not good at landing flush on anyone above a Josesito Lopez type of fighter. So his not flush shots were probably at least as hard as Canelo's punches.

I think Canelo is a good well rounded fighter but he couldn't put Josesito to sleep. Also I recall Shane Mosley saying he punched about as hard as Mayweather. Mayweather has enough power to get your respect, he has the technique to maximize this but that's not "make your legs buckle" type of power.

I think Maidana is prob the hardest puncher. Not by much since he is much smaller than both Ortiz and Canelo.

Also in the Ortiz loss to Maidana think about how drained Ortiz must have been. He is probably a 154lber fighting at 140lber then, and now at 147. He has a big frame.

At the same time though I would not say he has Golovkin or Kovalev type of power (proportionately).

As his body grew so the effects of weight-draining revealed themselves again, as they have in the past. This move to 147 should, in theory at least, return Khan's durability back to the level we saw against Maidana.

Canelo is bigger but he's only one weight class above. Size and weight can have an impact on punch power though they aren't the sole deciding factors. But yeah I would have guessed that Canelo would be the harder hitter before Lopez stated Maidana hits harder and I got to believe Lopez experience over anyone's guesswork, including my own.
Yeah, except for that whole 10th round where Joe Cortez kept jumping in the way to save Khan's ass.

I agree Canelo is sharp, his punches are crisp

fighters have biases, the major one being themselves. he was competitive with maidana. saying that maidana hit harder massages his ego.

he was also 10 lbs lighter against maidana and ortiz at the weigh in. the extra weight will help you absorb punches.

remembering the two fights, i have a hard time believing it. alvarez is a very crisp puncher, especially for a guy who doesn't have great speed.

you haven't seen that fight right?

Cortez broke up like two clinches in that round.. and you say he "kept jumping in".. yeah I think someone needs to watch that round again and then come back here and correct themselves..

In fact that round Khan took lot of clean shots which would have knocked out a lot of fighters with decent punch resistance but Khan never even went down once.. It proves my point about the weight-draining affecting Khan's punch resistance, in the Maidana fight he wasn't weight-drained and we saw that he could actually hold a shot better than most other fighters would have been able to, and not only that but he came back firing on all cylinders like a man possessed.

he can, but we saw him fight maidana, and he chino was the harder puncher that night. his right hand at 140 was f#ckign huge.

Of course Lopez would know better than any of us since he has faced all three in the ring but I'll throw up a poll anyway.
Look at the KO%. Broner will find out tonight why his people have matched him up with smaller guys and dudes with little punching power.

I was rewatching the Broner-Paulie fight last night while sinking deeper into a drunken depression and I came to the realization that an orthodox boxer who circles to Broner's right side and utilizes a good jab will have great success against him.

His "silly shell" defense keeps him committed to a certain posture and his footwork when encroaching the opponent prevents him from being in a position to attack without having his feet planted. Broner always keeps his right hand up high so he won't be able to use that hand with power while he is is leaning with all his weight on his back foot like he does instinctively every time the opponent punches. You circle into his power hand while attacking with the jab and you essentially render his right hand counter useless and he will reset every single time prior to trying to return fire.

His next favorite counter is that low left hook to the body that he throws from his elbow which leaves the left side of his face wide open. He will throw this about 70-85% of the time after he lands or throws the right. You pick up on the timing and throw an overhand right after he lands or throws the right and you will eventually tag him flush on the light switch.

His defensive strategy is his own worst enemy. He may be in for a rough night tonight if Maidana touches him more than a few times flush.
