Is that true? Because if it is , that officer really ****ed up...
Yes and no. Castro led a small band of rebels on an assault angainst the Moncada police barracks, in an abortive attempt to start a revolution. Most of his supporters were killed, but he lived and was tried. In an infamous case of terrible judgement, instead of executing or putting him away for life, the powers-that-be exiled Castro from the island. Castro made it to Mexico, where he marshaled a band of supporters (including Che Guevara) and launched an invasion of Cuba with only 82 men. They sustained heavy loses upon landing, but Castro and some key allies managed to survive, make it to the Sierra Maestra mountains and start a revolution. The rest, as they say, is history.

It's an amazing story, really. Too bad Castro turned out to be just like every other man in history with absolute power....

there have been some interesting points made on here. but listen lets talk some facts.....

-cuba has a better infant mortality rate than the united states
-literacy rate equal with the united states (99% of the country can read and write to my knowledge)
        -school and university is free
        -seeing a doctor is free
        -going to hospital is free

not bad for a country with the sanctions it has had and being totally isolated when the soviet union collapsed in 1991.

the thing is the US knows these things so they blind people by exaggerating human rights issues, but like the saying goes: dont throw stones if you live in a glass house because i dont think america has a leg to stand on frankly, i think they have had a few human rights issues themselves.....

when you drop nuclear bombs on two japanes cities and only let black people go to the same school as white people in the 60's for instance you should really just keep quiet

Cuba's government doesn't allow or have professional sports in their country....Not just boxing. Look at all the Cubans in MLB...

Their amateur program has been the best in the business for a very long time. They consistently produce some of the best pure boxers in our sport. A pretty amazing feat for such a small country..Lara, Rigo, Hernandez, Perez, Gamboa.....All bosses of bosses

We here in the states have no right to judge the way another country is run....We're the richest 3rd world country on the planet...Big..***ing...Deal. Our government chokes on *** but there's too many dumb mongoloid idiots in this country to do anything about it. At least if I lived in Cuba I could afford to go see a doctor.

Whatever issues the US has are irrelevant when discussing Cuba. The positive aspects you mention about Cuba are true, but where do you get the notion that human fights issues are exaggerated? The very fact that a Cuban citizen has no ability to move in and out of the country freely is a gigantic human rights issue unto itself. It's like providing someone with a few nice benefits in your home, then telling them they can never leave unless you grant them special permission. How wonderful.
