Mayweather was like Rigondeaux for a long time

Floyd was a technically skilled boxer and did not take many chances and was not very exciting to watch. Floyd did not become a household name until he beat Oscar. Floyd was arguably the number 1 p4p fighter in the world for a while before people took notice. Floyds style is a little more entertaining now because he stands in the pocket more but early on his style was unappealing to most.

Rigondeaux can just keep winning but it will take him a long time to really establish a fan base unless your a fan of master boxing. Floyd boastful personality helped his career a lot and then all of suddenly people started tuning in to see him lose.

Floyd only became the star he is because of his persona, the flamboyant, trash talking, money flashing, loud mouth.

Does Rigondeaux bring those kind of things to the table? I don't think he does.

It's a sad shame but it's the reality. I don't see Rigondeaux reaching stardom.

I never expected Rigo to be a star. Gamboa was the one Cuban guy I thought could be a star, but we all know how that turned out. Hernandez is doing pretty well in Germany. Maybe Guillermo could do better overseas.

Floyd was pretty big before the DLH fight. His fights against Judah and Baldomir for example did like 350,000 ppvs(not bad for that time). Do you think Rigondeaux could ever sell 350,000 ppvs?

? Rigo was like an early Mayweather? Not even close, Mayweather was exciting pre-Oscar.

rite keep thinking this bull****!!! do you know anything about boxing???

Floyd was an American Olympian ...that was Robbed at the games...

His father and Uncle were good fighters...and his Uncle was also a Former World Champion....

              Dude was a Child Prodigy!!!

The Mayweather last name with Boxing is Like "Manning" in Football..
The father wasn't a Hall of Famer but He groomed his Son's and they went on to become Great players!!!

You have No Idea what ur talking about Homie!!!!!

young ppl took to floyd since day one...I'm sure if u do a Breakdown of his Fanbase 90% of them are under 40...

Floyd also had 3 PPV's before Oscar....

that did Decent Carlos, Zab, and Gatti...

Go try to put Rigo on PPV and see if he can sell 5,000

                Somewhat

but folks were talking about Floyd all the way back in the 90's, I remember in 1999 he was featured in a segment on Sky boxing, and the commentators were saying this s the kid to watch.

he was training his ass off if I recall and he was kocky but no money talk, more so about moving up a weight class and taking over.

This thread is depressing. Go back in Floyd's career and actually WATCH THE DAMN FIGHTS. Yeah, his destruction of Chico was just like Rigo throwing 12 punches a round against a guy just standing there this past weekend. Sure thing boss. Floyd was MORE exciting as a small, younger guy. Jesus Christ...
