to be fair, they were there to see glen tapia, and he took a horrible beating.

rigondeaux does not sell. his fanboys will try and tell you otherwise, but they don't know what they're talking about. they think rigondeaux isn't popular because of bob arum. "arum hates him, doe."

"he could sell out a baseball stadium in miami, doe."

he is a 122 lb cuban. he speaks no english. he's a pure counterpuncher and a southpaw southpaw who the layman would find extremely boring.

i don't know what you want arum to do with the poor guy. rigo is a perfect storm of a bad draw.

I mentioned this in a post a couple of days ago. Much of that crowd was there to support Glen, who's from New Jersey. The beatdown he took obviously cast a pall over his supporters. Who would want to stick around and watch the remainder of the card after that hurt? I wouldn't. It might not have changed anything about Rigo's fight, but the perception might've been a little different. All those empty seats make it appear that Guillermo caused everyone to walk out. Even the people that weren't there for Tapia might've taken the exodus as a cue to leave.

People are making too big of a deal of the walking out:

@GatecrasherUA - after Rios-Alvarado I, a lot of patrons left in the early rounds of Donaire-Nishioka...

I remember telling people at HBO and Top Rank, putting Rios-Alvarado B4 Donaire-Nishioka was a mistake, and guess what happened?

Donaire-Nishioka played to an emptying venue. Sometimes the power brokers in boxing dont employ common sense....

I remember Seanie Monaghan fans leaving last Jan at the MSG Theater, didnt' even care about the HBO triple-header #boxing

          Steve Kim ‏@stevemaxboxing 9 Dec
Then after the Monaghan fans left, then the Kazaks' there to see GGG left before Mikey Garcia-OSalido. It's like they were leaving in shifts

Good post. You're probably right, but perception is everything. Once the damage is done, it's done. People may forget this, or Rigo might be remembered as being so boring that he "once cleared out a venue at AC." Time will tell.

The simple truth is that Top Rank are trying to "rush" fighters to "superstardom" who have way too few fights. Rigo has what 13 fights and has fought 1 excellent fighter and 2 B level guys now. He is not a main event type fighter at this point and never will be. TR needs to build his brand,if he ever has one, and have him fight in Miami. He might even have a shot of drawing 400-600 fans there.

Right now, no one wants to see him on tv or pay for the "free sleep." He is too afraid to get hit and mix it up.Lara is the same way but at least he will fight if forced to.

Before I get accused of hating on the Cubans, its their styles that suck for tv & paying $$ to see. These 2 are no Gamboa or Mike Perez, thats for sure. I'll watch Gamboa & Mike Perez all day long.

I also like the boxing purist style & can appreciate the greatness of Ward & Money May....but they take chances too & make exciting fights.

In rounds 2-5,8,9,10,&11 in the Abegko fight, Rigo threw single digit punches that weren't pawing jabs.

He is just not a tv fighter or someone that people will want to pay money for,period..

if the main event fighter wasn't one of the most boring fighters in boxing they would have stuck around. AC is a bonafide fight town.

tapia getting his ass kicked factored into people leaving, but so did rigondeaux's complete lack of appeal.

                  Why does this matter?
The only thing that should matter is that he fights top contenders. Wouldn't this work out better for the fan. If you want to go to the fight. You would be able to find a lot of tickets and you might get upgraded seat.

I love watching Rigo fight. He shuts down his opponent. Just like Clottey did vs Pacquiao or WVjr vs Donaire.

                    because they box for money...

if they don't make money, they don't box.

rigondeaux's talent and ability doesn't match his billing, and your billing is what dictates what fights you get.

it matters because it creates fights.

Sooo, the number of empty seats much justify a dismal and unrealistic ranking pfp of number *.
