Sturm might also opt for an easy defense against the bottom five fighters ranked in the top 15.... although since Barker may be retiring, that leaves one spot open for Macklin

Oh I thought it was something crazy like Geale had a rematch clause with Barker but Sturm was the mandatory so after Sturm-Barker (1 or 2) Geale was next in line again. Never mindnahh... what I was talking about was the WBA situation.
I'm not too sure if Geale had a rematch clause with Sturm
I was talking about mandos, Shaw options on Barker and stuff like that
Shaw was thinking about a Sturm rematch, but that was if he won against Barker because sturm was the mando
ATLANTIC CITY — Promoter Gary Shaw hopes to eventually match Daniel Geale against Gennady Golovkin and/or Sergio Martinez, but he doesn’t expect either of those high-profile fights to be next for Geale if the IBF middleweight champion overcomes Darren Barker on Saturday night at Revel. If Geale beats Barker (25-1, 16 KOs) in their HBO “Boxing After Dark” main event, Shaw anticipates that the IBF will force a mandatory match between Australia’s Geale (29-1, 15 KOs) and Germany’s Felix Sturm (38-3-2, 17 KOs, 1 NC), whom Geale defeated by split decision Sept. 1 in Oberhausen, Germany. Sturm is ranked No. 2 in the IBF’s middleweight ratings. Australia’s Sam Soliman (42-11, 17 KOs, 1 NC), who is ranked No. 1 by the IBF, scored a unanimous decision victory over Sturm on Feb. 1 in Dusseldorf, Germany, but the result was changed to a no-contest because Soliman tested positive for an illegal stimulant.
Now, I don't know who the mando is because according to the IBF ratings from Nov 6th, Soliman was the mando and not Sturm.
If Barker retires, that clears up the rematch clause and removes him from the rankings leaving either a Geale rematch or a Soliman rematch.
I doubt he unifies with Quillin or Golovkin, so we're left with a rematch with one of those two men
Quillin-Sturm isn't happening, Quillin isn't going to Germany.... Sturm-Golovin isn't happening either, Sturm wouldn't take that fight IMO, that could be the last of his career. Now Sturm-Martinez would be a fantastic fight, IMO. Obviously that isn't happening either
Sturm-Geale/Macklin would be okay with me. He probably wants one of those first and foremost to be able to beat them decisively. Probably Geale more, since he beat him.Comment

For some reason I don't like watching Sturm and Geale lolOh I thought it was something crazy like Geale had a rematch clause with Barker but Sturm was the mandatory so after Sturm-Barker (1 or 2) Geale was next in line again. Never mind

Sturm-Geale was pretty boring, IMO. Sturm wouldn't let his hands go at all, he would jab and then shell up and just didn't want to open up (from what I Remeber) he's got one of the best jabs in the game, if he would just let his hands go like he did against Barker, he would be funner to watch
But I think it's okay for a rematch to happen because he lost and I'm always for a fighter looking to avenge defeat. If Geale were to win, I could see him unifying with Quillin-Golovkkn, so there's that as well.
Murray IS the fight for any of the MW titleholders, aside from the other titlists... But personally, I want him to fight Golovkin since he's had trouble getting the top guys in with himComment

He wouldn't fight GGG when he was his mandatory so for sure he isn't going to fight him now.
But if he took that bout and lost it wouldn't have to be the end of his career. He has the money He has the money to lure some of the other top guys to Germany to risk their belts.Comment

Sturm will (continue to) do anything in his power to avoid Golovkin so this is certainly a fight that could be made.
But frankly what I really want is Sturm-GGG.Comment

Golovkin has gotten some steam behind him in now than in the past... but I still don't think Sturm would make it happen... especially since he just got the belt back. He'd need some money to make it happen... like 7 figures I betHe wouldn't fight GGG when he was his mandatory so for sure he isn't going to fight him now.

this is what I think, Macklin should have been a world champ, I think he is physical strong enough to handle Sturm and I just think he is stylistically made for Macklin. It's a good crop of fights out there, Macklin/Murray/Sturm/Geale/Lee, would love to be able to add Quillin to that mix.Macklin certainly won the first fight. I wouldn't mind this one. Sturm looked very sharp on Saturday, I think it could at least potentially look different than the last fight, and it gives a chance for both Macklin/Sturm to make statements about where they currently are.Comment

Yeah that's what I'm saying, no way the fight happens IMO.He wouldn't fight GGG when he was his mandatory so for sure he isn't going to fight him now.

And I mean his last fight in the sense that I think Golovkin would KO him, brutally, possibly... And he's not in his 20s anymore so it could very well send him into retirement (and I'm a huge Sturm)
A Sturm-Martinez/Wuillin fight would be excellent for all parties and a "legacy" type fight for any of them, IMOComment
