Comments Thread For: Matthew Macklin Targets Rematch With Felix Sturm

On Saturday evening Matthew Macklin (30-5) bounced back from his June knockout loss to Gennady Golovkin by defeating Lamar Russ (14-1) via unanimous decision in a bout televised by HBO. After the fight Macklin said he was happy to get back in the winner's column but felt he was trying to hard to get a knockout.

"I think I was forcing things a little bit too much. I was forcing things too much instead of setting up traps. I was loading up on my punches too much," Macklin stated.

Macklin certainly won the first fight. I wouldn't mind this one. Sturm looked very sharp on Saturday, I think it could at least potentially look different than the last fight, and it gives a chance for both Macklin/Sturm to make statements about where they currently are.

This would actually be a great defense for Sturm and a good fight overall.

Although... I'm pretty sure if Barker doesn't exercise his rematch clause.... Geale has some kind of a rematch clause with the IBF title Sturm holds.

I wish someone could clear this up and shed some light on the Geale situation, I think the first person who I saw mentioned it a month or so ago was Hougigo

lmao watch Macklin win and be champ. That belt is going to get 0 defenses per owner. I'd rather Murray or someone fight sturm. I would Have him vs Kid Chocolate if it was up to me lol

Chocolate KOs all 3 within one round..am I right? Lol.

Murray versus any of the titlists would be excellent.

Similar to Barker, I think Sturm can beat Macklin decisively if he just lets his hands go and opens up more then he did against Geale/Soliman

nahh... what I was talking about was the WBA situation.
I'm not too sure if Geale had a rematch clause with Sturm
I was talking about mandos, Shaw options on Barker and stuff like that

Shaw was thinking about a Sturm rematch, but that was if he won against Barker because sturm was the mando
ATLANTIC CITY — Promoter Gary Shaw hopes to eventually match Daniel Geale against Gennady Golovkin and/or Sergio Martinez, but he doesn’t expect either of those

Now, I don't know who the mando is because according to the IBF ratings from Nov 6th, Soliman was the mando and not Sturm.
If Barker retires, that clears up the rematch clause and removes him from the rankings leaving either a Geale rematch or a Soliman rematch.

I doubt he unifies with Quillin or Golovkin, so we're left with a rematch with one of those two men
