Comments Thread For: Canelo's Backup Options Include Molina, Two Others

Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer has three potential options in mind for Mexican superstar Saul "Canelo" Alvarez (42-1-1, 30KOs). Canelo is scheduled to return, on Showtime Pay-Per-View, on March 8th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. He also plans to fight on July 26th and November 2nd, with those two returns also landing on Showtime Pay-Per-View.

Canelo's last fight was a record-shattering twelve round decision loss to Floyd Mayweather Jr. on September 14th. The event generated 2.2 million pay-per-view purchases and $150 million in pay-per-view revenue.

Good luck selling a PPV fight against Molina or Trout-Lara.

Canelo is not a stand alone ppv star. Him and Molina won't sell squat. They need to stop all that ppv nonsense they're trying to shove down our throats.

Guarantee it won't be Lara. Lara would mess that face up!

Lol, Cotto just ruined Canelo's return plans. Now he fights a spoiler who possibly beats him (although they'd probably get robbed anyway) and won't make any money. If they try this on PPV they're insane.

I love Molina and hope he gets the fight, but he was last seen in 2.2 million homes in an absolutely terrible fight against Smith. How can they expect to sell that?

It seems Cotto does'nt want the money and the Canelo team have been ignoring Lara for years now, not gonna happen even if he beats Trout. So why not Angulo? It would at least be big in Mexico Big bucks ánd a better chance of winning.
