Than explain to me how so many other fighters from outside the US have been so revered here and there era's fine, but somehow this era for heavyweights is weak because I don't like the guys dominating it? Expanding on my research and after having dan_cov pick both Vits and Wlads 3 best wins each I've used the same formula for these guys with the exception of counting losses as well as wins as it shows a willingness to fight top comp, win or lose.

Byrd - has fought 7 top 10 fighters not including either Klit. He's fought Povetkin, McCline, Golota, Oquendo, Holyfield, Tua and Ibeabuchi.

Chagaev - Has fought 3 top 10 fighters not including either Klit. He's fought Povetkin, Valuev and Ruiz.

Povetkin - Has fought 1 top 10 fighter not including either Klit. He's fought Chagaev.

That is 11 top 10 fighters fought for Wlads 3 best wins.

Vitaly's top 3 opponents

Sanders - has fought 0 top 10 fighters not including either Klit.

Juan Carlos Gomez - has 1 top 10 opponent not including either Klit. He's fought Virchis.

Adamek - Has fought one top 10 opponent not including the Klits. He's fought Arreola.

That is 2 top 10 fighters fought for Vits 3 best wins.

I'll be doing Holmes, Tyson and Louis in the near future to keep proving my point. Today's era is TERRIBLE!

So we've had this conversation a million times. I'm adamant todays era sucks because fighters don't fight one another and the champion (and his titlist brother) do not often enough fight the best fighters. so I've done a little research and selected the Klits and 3 fighters who people say their era was weak. Now lets remember, ANY fighter can only fight who's there to fight, I've never blamed either brother for that. Now, head to head means nothing in this thread, it doesn't prove anything because its just a fantasy fight.

So, for the purpose of this thread I've used The Ring's annual rankings. Some ranked contenders may have been missed because rhese are year end rankings, but it's an even playing field for each fighter. Feel free to check my work, I've already double checked it. How this works is I've taken each fighter and listed every top 10 fighter he has fought while being top 10 ranked himself. I did not use ABC champion such as Bruno for Tyson or Schultz foe Wlad because they were not ranked. The only exception I made was ranking Spinks a champion because he was in fact the lineal champ when he fought Tyson. I've used each contenders rank from The Ring and divided that number by number of contender. Champions naturally have a zero and you can figure out the rest.

What's really amazing here is Larry Holmes era.Its not near as bad as many like to claim. The era had immense talent and skills only to be wasted on *******. Imagine if many of those guys could have led a disciplined life?

I haven't watched it in some time, but I had Holmes edging it as I also did against Carl Williams. Both deserved rematches though. It's to bad Spoons career got hung up by King, he may have been an ATG had he been given the right opportunities.
