Yes this tends to happen. Fighters outgrow the division. Truth be told Donaire outgrew those divisions a long time ago. He was basically draining himself into 115 and 118.well considering he won the fight at 122 and donaire is the one who's asking for a rematch, the catchweight of 123 is actually pretty generous. i see nothing wrong with it, by all accounts if donaire really wants a rematch it should be at 122 since that's where the first fight was at. and i hear people say donaire is too big for 122 now but it was only last year that he moved up to 122. he fought at the lower weights for the over 10 years and now suddenly at the age of 30 he's outgrown those divisions? i can see younger guys who are still growing doing that but a 30 year old shouldnt be growing much.
rigo just putting out his demands for the fight like donaire did. remember when donaire cried for a day about how rigo didnt sign the drug testing agreement yet? he almost called the fight off on that alone and he could do it because he was the champ. now rigo is the champ and the roles are reversed, except rigo is actually making it easier than he should as he's allowing donaire to come in above the 122 limit. absolutely nothing wrong with that.
also - the article is incorrect, donaire did not demand a rematch at all. kellerman had to ask him 20 times before he finally said rigo to save face.
The fact whether right or wrong is that Rigo needs the rematch more than Donaire, since Donaire moves the $. If the rematch happens it should be at 126. Where I still think Rigo schools him.Last edited by JJRod; 12-02-2013, 08:47 AM.Comment

I'm not sure about Donaire moving the cash after a lost in march and almost a lost last month with a very bad exhibition. 2013 for Donaire was a very bad year and his tendency is to move down, while we must see Rigo next Saturday to see if his tendency is to move up.Comment

If Rigo can't come up and Donaire can't come down effectively there is not reason for this fight. It might be the best cash fight for both fighters but as a fan I don't see a justification.yes, donaire elbowed him in the neck then punched him as he was already stumbling back. great knockdown! but do you also happen to remember rigo getting up within a second? or how he broke donaire's face?
his stipulations aren't even unreasonable. if anything since he won, the rematch should be at 122, instead he's letting donaire weigh in at 123. i dont see what's so wrong with that. if anything that actually helps donaire. plus donaire had his stipulations when they signed the first fight too but since he lost he doesnt get to dictate terms.
It was a slow dull fight and at the ending of the fight Rigo really took over and started to beat up Donaire. Rigo was the best man that night and showed his skills. Nonito called for Rigo after the fight and Rigo is entertaining it. Rigo has a tough fight against Abgeko coming upComment

Like someone said, Rigo begging Donaire for a fight is like Mayweather begging JMM for one. The Rigo/Donaire fight was a clash of styles that made for a boring fight and even though Rigo made some nice money on it, it almost cost him with HBO showing no interest in Rigo until they finally agreed from the pressure received. Even if the fight Saturday is entertaining, HBO still may not want to put on a Rigo/Donaire rematch because no one sees a different outcome. But at least if the Agbeko fight entertaining, Rigo will get more TV dates and that should be more important to him than him being co-dependent on Donaire for his livelyhood.Last edited by richardt; 12-02-2013, 11:35 AM.Comment
