Unless it's MSG that's throwing out a bunch of money I can't see that, this is definitely embellished.

I think it would be like 6.5 guaranteed for Cotto vs 4 for Martinez...compensating both fighters well and keeping the guarantees low enough to make money on the event.

One thing I've seen people mistake however...when it comes to %, it's not upside ON TOP of the guarantee, it's whatever is higher.

So say Cotto's guarantee is 6 mill and he's got a 60-40 deal w/ Sergio. He doesn't get 6 mill + 60% of revenue that would be absurd.

If 60% of the revenue ends up being more than 6 million then that's what he gets...if 60% of revenue is lower than 6 million he still gets 6 million because that's what he was guaranteed.

Just wanted to make that clear as I saw some people mistake that in this thread.

Cotto got around that much for fighting Mayweather. Sounds like BS.

How in the hell is Cotto-Martinez going to generate enough money to give Cotto $15mill guarantee + money PPV from sales? Is Martinez agreeing on getting paid like $200k?

I know how it works, I am not talking about Cotto is going to get 60% of the PPV revenue. The article states that Cotto will get a guarantee $15 mill plus PPV upside, which we don't know what it is, but $15 mill is around what Cotto got for Mayweather as a guarantee + PPV upside. I think his guarantee was $8mill for Mayweather, but ended up getting $15mill, around there, because of the PPV's massive numbers.

Yea the author sounds like he doesn't know what he's talking about. Which shouldn't surprise anyone since he's reporting that Cotto's going to get a 15mill guarantee.

Cotto ended up getting 15 mil against Floyd because his 35% or whatever it was ended up amounting to more than 8 mill.

I wouldn't doubt it. Sergio really wants to whoop Cotto for a while now lol

I know he has said he outright does not respect Cotto in an article here in BS, it was last year. He said the same thing about Pacquiao.

But I highly doubt Martinez would take peanuts for Cotto, he wants to get paid handsomely at 38 years old.

Breaking News: In a Winky-like business turn of events, Cotto declines both Canelo and Martinez and instead will fight Peter Quillin at 160 for $3mill guaranteed.

Disclaimer: The breaking news is false.
