If they guarantee 15 million, the show is going to take a significant loss. Cotto-Martinez will get, maybe between 600-700K tops on PPV. Cotto, as the A-side, has never been a big PPV draw on his own. Usually 500-600K and he had help from Margarito's Mexican following.

Well Shaefer confirmed the offer publicly. Now if you don't believe Golden Boy at their word that's ok but to my knowledge no one credible has come forward about this supposed $15 million offer for Martinez and until they do it is suspect.
If Arum or someone from Top Rank confirm it then it is legit IMO. Until then the Canelo offer for $10 million is the only legit offer.

I agree with this. They still have to pay Sergio he's not just going to fight for peanuts.

I'd say the situation is very valuable to alot of people - making Cotto worth alot.

            If Cotto beats Martinez

He becomes the lineal/RING/TBRB/WBC Middlweight Champ

So he then becomes lucrative to alot of players - especially since he's a small Jr. MW at that.

Floyd would be willing to fight him I think in a rematch - He would potentially become the Lineal/RING/TBRB champ in 3 weightclasses...simultaneously! WTF is that! That's pretty crazy, no matter how you spin it.

Canelo's handlers would be foaming at the mouth - give him the opportunity to beat Cotto, coming off of what will most likely be his best win. Canelo is naturally a bigger man - so 160 would be beneficial to him. He'd be a 2-weight champ - holder of Mexico's preferred belt - and be a lineal champ. The whole world would forget the 12-0 shutout Floyd gave him earlier this year if he was to win.

Arum - Arum would throw JMM, Bradley, Pacquiao, Jesus Christ and the Prophet Mohammed at Cotto to entice him to fight one of his guys to keep the MW title at Top Rank. And why wouldn't Cotto oblige? They're about to give him his biggest payday. All the aforementioned guys would love to move up and beat Cotto - and there is no size disparity between the four. 160 for either of them is just a circus act - but a very worthwhile circus act. We haven't had JMM cry robbery against a Rican - so there's that

HBO - They're spotlighting GGG principally. They'd throw the farm to feed Cotto to GGG and give GGG one of the sport's most prestigious title. HBO, if Cotto were to win, isn't going to let that guy go w/o a fight.

i agree. i think this is all BS to try and raise the price of cotto's next fight.

there's no way this fight generates enough money to pay cotto 15 million, pay martinez his worth in proportion to that cotto guarantee, and still make money.

                    15 mil > 10 mil so it's a no brainer there.

Plus Cotto can become the MW champ of the world. I just hope no one gets robbed, it happens a lot in Cotto fights at MSG and Martinez should have lost his last fight.
