De La Hoya vs. Trinidad Revelations

I usually spend most of my time watching new next/gen boxing matches on youtube, but the limited fighters of today left me starving for some true talent

So I decided to watch De La Hoya vs. Trinidad, and I noticed some things.

First things first, (though it was in Spanish) I never actually heard De La Hoya's trainers mention anything about stay back, don't engage, just run, etc anything like that for the last 3 rounds

Also, IMO De La Hoya won round 10, and clearly as far as I'm concerned...

I don't think De La Hoya's running in the 11th and 12th was from his corner telling him not to engage, but I think he actually got caught with something in the 9th that left him wanting to avoid the punches (maybe even dazed him a little) so that's why he kept moving

Anyway, I scored it 9-3 (I gave Tito the 9th, and Oscar the 10th)

If maybe I messed scoring the 10th cause it seems most people scored that for Tito, than I can't see better than 8-4 Oscar...

But you guys already knew that one

Anyway, its just been a while since I've talked to anyone on here about older fights (Everything now is GGG, Ward, Floyd, and Manny and I'm bored with that) so I just wanted to possibly open this discussion again

When's the last time u guys saw this fight and did anything change from the first time?

I haven't watched this fight since I saw it live; it pained me to watch the Legendary Nights because I hate this decision that much to where i wont watch it again. But I remember it like it was yesterday. I hated Tito for a while after this fight.

Seen the fight 3 times, once was live as a 10 year old and Oscar was the man, he totally dominated Tito, not exactly a great fight but Oscar gave Tito a lesson in there. Out jabbed, out worked and out landed...how the hell did Tito win again? Every time I see the fight I can't give Tito more than 3 or 4 rounds and I like Tito, one of the best welterweights post Leonard/Hearns/Benitez but *** me, he should never have won that fight.

I think that you should be told that the 3 judges gave the last 4 rounds to Trinidad, and the 8th round was given by 2 judges to Trinidad.

As for me, I believe that Trinidad won the fight. I've seen the fight at least 5-6 times and my opinion has never changed. Oscar was at his best in the first half of the fight and it was a good one. But I saw that he took a very heavy body shot in the 5 th rd and from then on became less effective. In the last 3 rds it looked as if he had the chance, he'd jump out of the ring. He wanted to get away. He made up that excuse about "instructions from my corner to box" etc. and as we all saw, he didn't box, he ran. He boxed for the first 6-7 rounds only.

Trinidad also changed his game from rd 7, and began to hunt him with tremendous pressure, and, taking the initiative away from Oscar, getting closer all the time. Oscar was dead-tired from running, and we must remember-although many really don't know- that Oscar's weak point was always his body. He had a specially constructed protector cup with a wide belt which always worked up higher on his body, and if you pay attention to some of his fights, especially Trinidad and Mosley fights you'll see that from time to time the ref would push it down.

In the second Mosley fight, Mosley changed his tactics completely. He began very sluggishly and was beaten to the punch regularly until he started to concentrate on the body. Oscar felt it and as the fight progressed into the later rounds there were a lot of single body shots from Mosley with Oscar feeling it, and crouching lower and lower to protect his body. it was well known and often mentioned by analysts that Oscar had body-shot problems They laughed about his "chest protector'..... I've watched all his major fights live, and if you haven't, you'll have missed much of the commentary.

I think that Oscar's best fight was Mosley-One, their speed and brilliance were exceptional, although Mosley was usually the one who gave the last punch of the many combinations from both. It should have been a unanimous decision not a split. Mosley won the last 3 rounds for sure as it could be seen that Oscar couldn't keep up the terrific pace.

Close fight that could have gone either way.

Oscar would have won if he didn't give the last few rounds away.

I watched it several times and Oscar won eight rounds to Don King's four. So Don King got the decision.

              Obvious robbery!

Its amazing how everyone saw the exact same fight, can see it at any time of the day again, and yet the outcome is viewed differently by many...

I could type the word "runner" then let 100 people see it, delete it and ask, "what word did I type?"

I cant see 30 people saying Albino, while the other 70 saying "runner" I mean, although the word is gone, the 100 cant be ****** enough to forget. How in the hell can people say Tito won 7 rounds????? How????? How?!?!?!?!?!?!?!!!!!!. Oscar GAVE AWAY 2-3 and Tito won 1-2....

Its amazing how people still say Tito beat beat Oscar like saying Bradley really did beat Pacman.... They must be obvious fanboys right??? How else can it be explained

Tito won rounds 4,9,10,11, and 12 clearly. All this talk about a robbery and you got a 7-5 fight at worst. I have never complained about this decision because Oscar deserved it. I was a DLH fan at the time but he disappointed me so much in this fight.

That's the way I remember it. I saw the fight when it first aired and haven't re-watched since. Always meant to, but never did. I didn't score, but I remember thinking three things just before the decision was announced: 1. Oscar should narrowly win; 2. A draw would be fair; 3. A Trinidad decision wouldn't shock me. As everyone knows, De La Hoya threw away the fight in the last few rounds by literally running. Oscar really didn't even have to engage all that much. It was a strategy that will always haunt him.
