This maybe explains it better than I can:

The fight [Geale v Barker] has a rematch clause, pending a mandatory challenge between Barker and Germany's Felix Sturm, and Treacy said he hoped to secure a bout in Australia.

"We don't mind who wins between Barker and Sturm because Daniel will be ready for either and he will win the belt back," he said.

Yes, but there's never been a Super/Unified/Regular. The Unified would be the regular. I believe interim champs are the equivalent of the WBC silver champion, i.e they are the mandatory for the Regular title. Then the Regular titlist is the mandatory for the Super title at some point. Such a corrupt money grabbing system, but sadly there is a logic to it (albeit quite ridiculous to call them champions)

Lol I was just trying to make it sound like the giant cluster ****.

Pretty much Geale gets the winner of Barker-Sturm, if Sturm wins.. he gets the winner of Barker-Sturm II due to Barkers rematch clause against Sturm

We are witnessing creation of a goodboy tournament with GGG not being part of it.

Oh I see. I always thought interim champ was kind of like Regular champ with the WBC. Robert Gurrero is a "6 time champion in 4 weight divisions" despite most of those being interim titles.

But if they don't enforce the rules, I don't mind them having Super Champ/Regular Champ. Because without it, the Lara/Trout winner will never get a world title shot because Mayweather won't fight them or won't be stripped. That's not fair to the guys that fight there way to become #1 contender.

In the case of Super/Unified champions - Unified champions often hold the "Regular" belt and therefore aren't the true WBA champ, such as Froch where Ward is the WBA Super champ. I've never seen a situation where the WBA have a Super, Unified and Regular champ, and i'm certain the WBA only have 1 or maybe 2 champions at 160 currently.

The rules of 5 defences being upgraded has been in effect for years. It's just a myth that only unified champions become 'Super' (though this used to be the case a long time ago)

But I agree, it's getting beyond a joke now. The sanctioning bodies really need to follow the example of the IBF - one world title, enforce mandatories, no interims/silver/super/emeritus, only a couple of minor titles (international/intercontinental).
                  I think it's 10, not 5, but right otherwise

I called this a few weeks back, when Hatton said Murray would be fighting for a world title. GGG's not promoted for "unification", it's cause he's had 10 defenses, almost (lmao). Seems like they're counting his interim belt fights lol

I didn't realise that, they used it as a marketing line. How many legit titles has Guerrero won?
