I think he should have had a few more fights first - not because he has to "pay his dues" but simply to have experience fighting past 3 rounds - especially against seasoned pros.

That being said - having 400 amateur fights, winning two gold medals and dominating the amateur level for 5 years is working your way up.

Thanks man. I get your drift, but these midget weightclasses are not like WW and up, where champs fight 2x a year at best and guys like Lara wait for a title shot for years. These champs like Salido fight often, often fighting no name bums for peanuts off TV. Guys like Dib get one shot after another, not doing anything to earn either one.

I don't even think this is a smart idea for Loma, but it's hell of a lot more interesting than any of those I listed.

I've been reading the various posts with a combination of amusement, astonishment and disbelief. As well as a bit of agreement here and there.

Astonishment at the large number of trainers and manager who know best how to guide Lomachenko's career, and disbelief at the equally large amount of ignorance shown by others.

Let me put the matter clearly.... Lomachneko has won 2 Olympic Gold Medals-in 2008 and 2012. He has ALSO won 3 World Championship Medals- a Silver in 2007, a Gold in both 2009 and 2011. These are held every 2 years, in the off years of the Olympics.

All this means that Lomachenko has been at the very top of Amateur Boxing for the past 6-7 years, up to when he signed with Top Rank.

ANDDDD....... A key clause in his contract stated that he had to get a title fight in his second fight. Without this clause he would not have signed the contract. is reason is that with his huge amateur record of 402-1, he wants to become the world record holder by WINNING a title in his second fight. This is because there are 2 fighters (somewhere in the lowest weights) who won titles in their third fights.

Pete Rademacher won the Olympic Heavyweight Championship in 1956. He made history by being the only fighter-so far- to fight for the World Title in his first fight...against Floyd Patterson. He lost, but had a reasonably good career afterwards.

They are picking on a champion who can be boxed, wouldn't be the first a promoter who picks on what he thinks is a weak champion to someone he has actual plans for. Smart move but Lomachenko never been in deep before this is a risky move just because other fighters made Salido look ordinary as fk with their boxing skills does not mean is easy just go ask rainbow rican. Bingo. Its an alphabet title people. We need to think of this more as an inexperienced guy fighting for a top ranking spot rather than for a world title imo
