Serious question... how did Golovkin's popularity rise so fast?

Like you said though, he's living up to the billing.... For years HBO has been pushing Berto, and Broners down our throats only to have Berto end up sucking and Broner recieving the same hype but against the Gavin Rees' of the world. Golovkin is at least living to live up to it and willing to face anybody.


Anybody who hates that (not you) Golovkin is just a product of HBO hype, they really also hate Canelo, Broner among others. (Ironically they're viewed as legit, though. go figure)

Yeah, I'm not saying he isn't or anything like that. I'm just looking at the situation as a business you know, and there is a sales pitch being laid out and casual viewers tune it perhaps a little longer becuase of the hope of seeing a KO and then they get one. They are much more likely to do a little research and keep tabs on the next time he is going to fight.

I think that is a big reason why he is skyrocketing right now. The people expect a KO in every fight when they see him and so far, they are getting it. He hasn't failed to deliver yet and that's what counts. I'll definitely give him this, he understands very well the nature of the sport he is in and he knows what to do to stand out. Broner tries with his antics because he thinks that's what his daddy Floyd did to "make it" but he is one big, continuous epic fail from what I can tell.

Golovkin is a real humble guy but he delivers the goods....if he would just polish up that damned English and he'd be an even bigger draw. He's working on it though...

Doesn't Rios have a very fan friendly style too? I remember getting so hype watching him and Urbano Antillon mixing it up and it was action packed all the way.
People don't seem to warm up to him as much though... maybe it's the way he acts.... but people evidently like that

Rios also had those 2 losses, and isn't the most talented of boxers. Not always in control of the situation, relying on his chin too much. Impossible to sell as the future of boxing, though usually puts up a great show
