Serious question... how did Golovkin's popularity rise so fast?

I don't know. I can only speak for myself....But..The reason why i'm a fan of his is because of his footwork , crazy ko power , overall technic (subtle but deadly)...In a nutshell , He's like a terminator , stalking his victims , only with a borat accent. What's not to like ?Comment

To be fair, Kovalev has only fought on HBO once and it was a fight in Europe, i expect after his fight this month and if he figts someone like Adonis next, his popularity will rise.
Golovkin definitely seems more popular in the US at the moment, but I just think Kovalev hasn't had the same mainstream-outlet yet.Comment

Yea... they might try to fast track him too... all depends on DuvaTo be fair, Kovalev has only fought on HBO once and it was a fight in Europe, i expect after his fight this month and if he figts someone like Adonis next, his popularity will rise.

I think he's already being fast tracked, to be honest. Duva was pretty vocal after the Campillo fight saying he is willing to and they want him to fight any and every fight.
Not many guys fight two legit top 10 divisional fighters (and a top 20 or so in White) or even get a strap by their 21st fight. (or fight an arguable Unified champ in 19th fight)
Personally I think HBO would push Kovalev just as hard if he was to fight and beat Adonis. Actually, I think if Kovalev beats Adonis, HBO would be even more interested in Ward-Kovalev then Ward-GGG.
The winner between Adonis-Kovalev in general, will get a huge push from HBO, IMOComment

His fast tracking all depends on how much he gets paid IMO. Golovkin on peanuts, but he's on HBO 3 times this year. Don't know how much he got for Cleverly or how much he's getting now. If they're asking million dollar pay days, we might not see him as much. I hope HBO are trying to build up a Stevenson/Kovalev unification.I think he's already being fast tracked, to be honest. Personally I don't see Kovalev or his team declining fights due to pay..... Cleverly was his career payday thus far but before that when he was fighting on NBC, he wasn't making more then $20,000 and on top of that, I read an interview with him and his manager and they said he was fighting for free pretty much in like his first 10-15 fights or until he signed with Main Events. His fast tracking all depends on how much he gets paid IMO. I have a feeling Duva will go the K2, Golovkin - "My guy just wants to fight and take your head off" route until people take notice and the paydays become inevitible. I could be wrong but I think without a doubt Adonis-Kovalev will happen next year.... I'm sure that fight will happen, barring something crazy. They've already been talking about it, but now they're both on the same card, i think it's pretty obvious.
The problem is, aside from Adonis and Kovalev, there isn't any "big fights" in the division from either of them..... aside from Ward potentially moving up, which kind of leads me to believe the winner of Adonis-Kovalev will surely fight Ward late next year or down the line. IMOComment
