GGG Cannot Fight Going Backwards!

when you fight these c level guys you can only expect so much out of them. people are running around saying "why didn't he sustain pushing golovkin back!! why!" because he's a c level fighter & he's extremely limited.

You cant expect lower level fighters to come forward, something which stevens has done in his last few fights? There is nothing hard about sustaining a forward momentum, especially when GOlovkin doesnt know how to fight against it, right? so why not to to do it? WHen he did he, he had success, so why not keep doing it? Doesnt makes sense.

There was nothing in last nights fight to suggest Golovkin could not fight going backwards. Maybe he just chose not to. Golovkin knew it was Stevens who could not fight going backwards so he kept resetting to push him back. When Stevens did land, it was when Golovkin was in the pocket with him and Stevens would lunge with a combination. Golovkin would step back and reset. Now he made mistakes in his retreats and got clipped. That is something he should work on. He was not on the back foot long enough for us to suggest anything, it was his transitions that were a bit shaky

This would be like all the clowns who said Mayweather could not fight off the ropes well when he fought Castillo or early in the fight against Hatton. Some nuts also said Floyd could not fight well going forward. he also proved that wrong many times.

What I was impressed by last night was Golovkins Jab. He had Stevens looking like a pez dispenser. It was a slow, methodical beatdown against a limited, but very live and dangerous puncher.

Surely you can comprehend that getting punched by someone who hits as hard as Golovkin does is going to make you reluctant to force the action?

Stevens experienced first hand that Golovkin only needs one punch to almost knock him back in time.

Stevens would have backed him up if he could, Golovkin did a great job at preventing that.

go back and look at the fight.......stevens was going to the ropes early on. & in the middle of the fight. the later part of the fight is where he started to get abused and would be forced back.........but in the middle rounds he was actually keeping it in the center of the ring and after he would force golovkin back (with a combination) he would retreat backwards to re gain his stamina. this tactic didn't work out for him because in the later part of the fight he started to get abused too much on the ropes.

again.....you can only expect so much from a c level guy.

He can even though he might not seem as in control or as comfortable as he does going forward. When fighters push forward, they land a few combos until Gennady decides to throw and then they have no choice but to retreat. Golovkin's power changes their plan, it is not possible to pressure Golovkin and not get caught with a shot that makes you reflect on your life and realize you cnnot take that kind of punishment. You pressure Gennady you will get caught.

Who said he had massive success? He had far from massive success.

He had very seldom success. But in those seldom moments Golovkin showed a weakness. It only has to be seldom for it to be shown.

Of course there's skill in backing someone up, especially someone who punches as hard as Golovkin does. I'm sure Stevens would have loved to have backed him up if he was good enough and you can bet he tried, but he's not, Golovkin was way too strong and hit way too hard and thus backed Stevens up instead.

The few times he did manage to back him up, he showed an obvious weakness. He just couldn't sustain it because he's not very good.

Combine all those moments and they wouldnt even equal 1 min. Its like saying Floyd has crap defense by focusing on moments where he got hit, it doesnt make sense.

THere is skill in backing someone up, but not in attempting it, and Stevens never attempted it more then 5 secs at a time. If he tried and failed, thats a different story, but he didnt try. Key word is "try". Chavez tries all night long, dont tell me stevens couldnt try to back him up like that an impossible to do.

What talent? Once you take out Ward and Froch the division is really not that talented. Kessler is shot, GGG has already KO'd Bute, Stieglitz, Groves, and De Gale would all get stopped. Abraham is shot to pieces and never belonged at 168; doesn't even have power at the weight.

If Froch were Golovkin's size he would probably get KO'd easily, the size advantage makes it competitive. Andre Ward is the real deal but he's the best in the division by a country mile.

i agree bro.......160 is more talented and also golovkin stops everyone at 168 apart from ward. guys like macklin are better then bika (even though macklin was ko'd when he stepped up)

Stevens not coming forward consistently is not because he's limited, it's because he couldn't take the force of the punches. Same for Macklin, Ishida and Rosado. He did try, but he just had to succumb. A lump like Bika could probably take it and come forward, but I don't think there's anyone at middleweight who can walk Golovkin down.

I don't think Bika could do it anymore. He was getting hurt by Periban, who is very slow and not that good

If Golovkin cant fight backwards, the reasonable thing is to attempt to push him back. Now if you attempt to push him back yet get your ass beat even worse then going backwards, then how is it that golovkin cant fight backwards? Its an oxymoron of sorts

He didn't expose Golovkin, he just highlighted a weakness.

He did try, when he had success and was teeing off on him he likely thought that he's going to continue that success. Then Golovkin stepped it up and starting landing some accurate clean punches and he decided that if he does that it's going to be short night.

The difference is Chavez is willing to take the punishment that Stevens clearly wasn't.
