irondan, pigsfly, and myself arent saying that ggg is a hype job or anything like that,,
All we are saying is that after watching ggg fights, it has become apparent that he does not feel comfortable going backwards,,,
He is a really good fighter, we can all agree, but at the same time he does seem vulnerable when going backwards,, he sorta goes back in a straight line, wheras a guy like floyd, chavez, duran would go backwards but at an angle and not straight back,,,
GGG hasnt faced anybody that can deal with his firepower, but eventually he will fight somebody that can, and if he continues to go straightback like jermain taylor, ggg will pay a price,,,

That seems to be the only time ggg is vulnerable,,, he is obviously a beast when coming forward behind the jab,, pushing him back will require some power, chin, and some movement to avoid the incoming shots but when pushed back ggg looks vulnerable,,, that is all that we are trying to say,, and its just not this fight,, if you watch the ouma and rosado fights you will notice it too,,,
Now saying all of that, it will still take a very top level guy to push him back and currently none of the top mw in the world have the skill set to do that,,,

    • I observed that too, but that being said is not an easy task to back him up in the first place.

exactly,, i wont be easy and will take a top level guy to succeed, but that seems to be his vulnerability,,

Standing there and letting him box you is a recipe for getting beatdown,,

When Stevens did land, it was when Golovkin was in the pocket with him and Stevens would lunge with a combination. Golovkin would step back and reset. Now he made mistakes in his retreats and got clipped. That is something he should work on. He was not on the back foot long enough for us to suggest anything, it was his transitions that were a bit shaky

This would be like all the clowns who said Mayweather could not fight off the ropes well when he fought Castillo or early in the fight against Hatton. Some nuts also said Floyd could not fight well going forward. he also proved that wrong many times.

What I was impressed by last night was Golovkins Jab. He had Stevens looking like a pez dispenser. It was a slow, methodical beatdown against a limited, but very live and dangerous puncher.
Golovkin's jab is a *******. Really good weapon, hurts to watch how it snaps heads back, can't imagine getting hit by it.

he's obviously a good boxer, out-boxer is a different story

            but he's no brawler

            • IMO GGG did very well. He was told to box and not make it a street fight, so he did. Possibly if he went crazy he would have got the KO but as stated, he listened to his trainer.

He won every round for me. He used his jab and didn't believe in his power which does sometimes lose you a fight. He kept busy and broke Stevens down. Stevens was disappointing, literally shelling up and throwing hardly anything.

floyd goes straight back alot, he only turns when he's touches the ropes
duran is always circling, dunno bout chavez

will have to rewatch the fight, because i didn't get this feeling of "wow, triple g sucks going backwards" watching it the first time, the sequences were so short, and it might have just been him keeping his range, he moves back to maintain that range for his heavy jabs(which have him closer to his opponent) that keep the opponent busy as he sneakly closes in for hooks

out-boxers are just trying to keep far away, they aren't looking for hooks to the body or to the head most of the time, they are circling with jabs that you usually catch the end of and looking to potshot with a straight and bolt again

Its not like GGG looks like garbage going backwards,, its just that he doesnt seem as comfortable and is the only time he ever gets hit flush,, watch him vs ouma, rosado, stevens fights and in all of them, the only time they had any type of success was when ggg was going backwards,,,, and its not just going backwards but the fact that those guys when they got off first they had success,,,

I think to beat ggg, you need to get off first with punches and make him go backwards,, if you allow him to throw first and come forward, your getting beat down,,,,

i agree, he like pacquiao is always looking for a counter, wondering when the opponents combo is going to end, so they take a step or two back then stop looking for a counter, that's when they get caught, they dont go into defense mode and just jump out of there

he is his safest no doubt when he is pumping his jab while cautiously on the look out for return fire

                    • I think the problem is ppl simply don't like when u criticize their fighters. It was a simple, well thought out criticism but ppl are against it for some reason. The funny thing is most here thing golovkin is the real deal at mw. But saying he has a flaw is not hating, it's being a boxing observer.
