When the mandatory is the better fight, yes the fans rally behind the mando to get his fight. Rubio is not a better opponent than Cotto so fans won't rally behind Rubio. The consistency of the fans is basically: We want the best fight possible.

The thing is Rubio already has had two middleweight title shots agaisnt Pavlik and Chavez. Enough is enough.

Cotto could still win the ring title. The rule refers to when the championship is vacant.

Rubio will probably take some money and have him on the undercard somewhere. Simple.

I support champs fighting the mandos, but lets be realistic. The WBC doesn't have the best track record of enforcing the mando policy, how does Rubio think he's going to be the one the WBC enforces the mando fight?

come on the WBC is so full of it. they don't even follow their own rules.

it's not like they really matter. Rubio isn't ****** enough to believe they actually enforce them. he just wants a piece of the Cotto v Martinez earnings.

what's real is the WBC's 3% cut is a lot bigger with Cotto v Martinez than Martinez v Rubio or Rubio against some bum for the vacated title.

Cotto v Martinez will probably make maybe around $50 million and the WBC will get 1.5 million just to have their trinket belt in that fight.

Martinez vs Rubio maybe worth 1.5 milllion on HBO or less. that's 45k for the WBC

maybe Rubio fights a guy on TVAzteca for the vacated title for 50k, thats 1500 for the WBC.

the WBC has $ 1.5 Million reasons to ignore Rubio and he knows it.

I believe he can still win the Ring title. I think that rule only applies to vacant titles. There's also the lineal MW title they would be fighting for. Would give Cotto the honor of being the first Puerto Rican to win 4 title in 4 different weight classes, which is really his driving force behind going for Maravilla next.

I think Rubio deserves the fight. He worked for it and won. Not a PPV draw but he's not bad a fighter and should be mandatory. But it's the WBC (meaning can easily bought out for bigger names). I too would rather see Cotto vs. Martinez in a heartbeat, but that's boxing....the screwed get bent over again and again. Rubio is actually my favorite of the Mexican Middleweights....shame on me for liking KO artists. "He's a beast" in my book. 58 wins....50 KO's?

The veteran derserves it. How many more fights does he need?
