This simply isn't true, he wasn't a great defensive fighter, his defence at times was good but certainly not great, at times his defence was bad, Mayweather, Taylor, Lockridge, Whitaker and Laporte all found him very easily, even crappy fighters were hitting him aswell, Jacubumski was landing flush.



No he really wasn't there are many fighters who were far slicker moving forward, Duran was levels above him in that regard.

i agree with this post wholehearttedly although i dont remember seeing jacumbumski fight....and im not a black supremacist either..

defense was never sr's forte, breaking down opponents , body punching in exchange of taking shots on the way in is .. he was not on duran's league...

That's going too far, Chavez would have never gotten bombarded with punches the way Marquez did against Diaz and Katsidis, granted a prime Marquez primarily used his legs to defend but Chavez knew how to roll and smother his opponents.

In my honest opinion, off topic here but Chavez would have destroyed Pryor and I don't think it would be that competitive.

Its not fair to compare a way past prime Marquez to Chavez, I doubt Marty Jakubumski would have landed more on Marquez, not a very good way to gauge their defensive skills in their primes.
