I don't think Mayweather belongs in the discussion, it just confuses things.

Let me just say, casuals from all backgrounds aren't interested in boring, slick boxing. In terms of what goes on inside the ring they want to watch exciting fighters like Mike Tyson, Manny Pacquiao, Arturo Gatti, Prince Naseem and Erik Morales.
We arent a demographic that counts, we are the lifeblood of the sport but we arent the cherry on top, Networks dont care about our opinions if they did they wouldn't try to make a card full of wars everytime, its the casuals that dictate things. Our views etc are always accounted for, we watch pretty much every bout the cherry on top it is the casuals who are the cherry on top.

You think we the boxing fans, pushed JCC jr to have the best ratings on HBO this year against VERA fucking VERA? lol hell no.

we account for the same numbers we account for every damn fight, its only the casuals that matter.

and on top of casuals is a demographic called nut huggers.

People who will only tune in cause they are fans of a particular fighter only.

Casual will tune into, Mike Tyson, Manny Pacquiao, Arturo Gatti, Prince Naseem and Erik Morales.

Nut hugger will tune into Pacquaio or Mayweather Mostly and maybe someone they fought or going to fight.

Put we the real boxing demographic, we arent a important part of the calculations. Why we dont bring cherry on top ratings and we arent going anywhere either\.

        Everyone wants to be entertained.

Nah. You trying to tell me what a black casual boxing fan thinks is laughable.

Rigo and Lara have the same issue. They don't get enough support from the Cuban fan base. Really promoters aren't trying to even test it because they haven't headlined in Miami yet.

And its not just me saying it. Schaefer said it too

Give him a second. If he is actually any good he'll become a superstar and the pin-up of black (and white) people everywhere, not just in US, simply because he's very exciting to watch.

I say the same thing about Peter Quillin. If he's good enough and fights often enough he could become a star. Irrespective of race, if you're knocking fools out, people want to watch.

Keith Thurman has a lot of star potential too. I think he's the most likely of the three to crack it.

Guys like Ward, Hopkins, Bradley etc, they're never going to excite casual fans of any race.

Ward, Bradley and Hopkins are millionaires and have either already or will headline PPvs. But they will never become mega stars because their fan bases are small. And the primary reason is the lack of interest in boxing in black America.

And everybody knows who Bernard Hopkins is. But my point is, every boxing megastar nowadays:

Pacquiao, Cotto, Canelo, have a core fan base that has allowed them to reach superstardom. Bradley, Ward, Rigo, etc. don't have that. I'd be shocked if Thurman and Quillin ever reach that level of superstardom.

Mayweather has done it through winning and celebrity appeal outside of the ring and that's the route Broner is taking. Bradley, Ward and Rigo are quiet and humble and won't ever get that cross over appeal.

Sergio Martinez isn't boring and he isn't a megastar in America. Same thing different group.
