The Ring is owned by Golden Boy, these are the same guys that tried to put Adrien Broner p4p above Manny Pacquiao before they got laughed out by fans.

Yahoo and ESPN are barely credible for boxing coverage, barely. And even then I would like to know how they had Guerrero's win over Berto ranked ahead of Marquez' KO over Pacquiaoo, or Pacquiao's wns over numerous welterweights even with the KO in mind. That's leaving out Tim Bradley who I would argue was more accomplished than Guerrero with his record as a whole, not even talking about his competitive showing against Pacquiao.

I'm not The Ring Magazine so I don't get to decide who they grant lineal championship status to. But in my opinion there were at least three welterweights better than Robert Guerrero out there when Floyd fought and beat him.

Okay, so forge tTim Bradley. Manny Pacquiao getting knocked out by Juan Manuel Marquez (one of the best in the world) puts his wins over ODLH, Cotto, Clottey, Mosley and JMM 3 behind Guerrero's wins over Aydin and Berto? No way!!

Nothing against The Ring magazine and not that this is very relevant but they also have Canelo and Broner as P4P fighters.

Um, they didn't? Who said they did? Marquez has been ranked #2 WW all the way up now when he "lost" to Bradley. Marquez was regarded as the second best WW at the time, Floyd was #1, Guerrero #3. The rest is revisionist history.

Both Bradley and Pacquiao were having a crap moment. Bradley was going through suicidal thoughts, and then Pacquiao got knocked out. Guerrerwas having a better moment at WW than Bradley and Pacquiao, that's all there is to it. Bradley jumped up to WW and got a controversial win over Pacquiao, you expect him to be top 3 after that?

Broner downright sucks and is not even top 20 P4P. That is a mistake by The Ring.

Canelo, I put him in my top 10 P4P when he beat Trout. I see absolutely nothing wrong with having Canelo in the top 10.

So a fighter's spot should never be reduced if he loses, because of who he has beaten in the past?

True, but Boxing is a sport of now and you know that. Most felt Manny beat Bradley and did not recognize him as a Champion at Welter, Manny then went on to be iced, coincidentally by a guy Floyd destroyed. There is no dis*****g that at that particular time, Floyd unquestionably fought the best Welter available.

I would expect Bradley competitive performance against Pacquiao to rank higher than Guerrero's win against Berto, yes. The quality of opponents is vastly different. Berto has not beaten anybody worth mentioning at the weight. Look at their careers as a whole and Bradley's record stands head and shoulders above Guerrero's at the time of the Mayweather fight.

And again I'm saying ranking Bradley above Guerrero is debatable. I don't see how anybody could seriously have Guerrero above Pacquiao in the welterweight rankings when he fought Floyd.

Don't get me wrong, Guerrero was a good opponent for Floyd. I even talked that fight up as it approached. But I don't agree that Guerrero was an opponent worthy of granting Floyd lineal WW champ status.

Floyd will win the award from both The Ring and BWAA

He fought the best welterweight available to his promotion company, that's true.

Boxing is definitely a sport of now, I just don't know what sport the people were watching when they ranked Guerrero ahead of Pacquao, just because Guerrero had a win (against a guy who has lost every step-up fight he ever took) while Pacquiao got knocked out (against a guy who was top 5 pound-for-pound for years).

Put it this way: I think Floyd is the clear front-runner at welterweight. But I can't say that his win over Guerrero makes him the lineal champ. I just completely disagree with that idea. Guerrero was not the #2 guy at the weight, I don't think he was even the #4 guy.
